There is provided an electromagnetically operated jacquard control arrangement having a magnetic system. Each control element is provided with a magnetic core having a corresponding repulsion winding and a anchor equipped with a permanent magnet. A control arm urges the anchor toward the magnetic core on each cycle. When the repulsion winding is activated the anchor is repelled from the magnetic core. If there is no activation, then the anchor remains in its position. A control arrangement of this type works in a highly reliable manner.

The needles are guided in the grooves such that the angle defined between the ends of the needles, as measured by the tangent thereto, and the vertical axis of the bed, decreases as the needles are moved from the drawing-in position to the push-out position.

A knitting machine capable of forming filaments of yarn, thread, and the like into a loop-in-loop arrangement includes a plurality of rotary needles which are axially spaced for rotation about a common axis and have at least two circumferentially spaced hook portions. As a needle is rotated, a hook captures a segment of filament being fed to the vicinity of the needle and pulls it into a loop. Upon further rotation, the circumferentially adjacent hook captures another segment of filament and pulls it into a loop through the previously formed loop which is still carried by the needle. As the needle continues to rotate, the first formed loop is cast off the needle by slipping out of the hook in which it is captured and this hook captures another segment of filament to start another cycle. The needles are rotated by an external drive means which either engages the needle periphery outside the loop catching and forming area or electrically couples the needles so they are rotated about their own central axis without an encumbering mechanical axis.

An actuating current switch can energize the electromagnet arrangement. A swingably mounted control element provides a movable contact point on a lever arm for moving controllable elements. A swingable synchronization arrangement is driven back and forth by a continually rotating main shaft which can also turn the control element in one direction over a predetermined working angle. A return spring, in dependence upon the activation condition of the electromagnet, can swing back the control element. At the beginning of each working cycle the anchor is positioned proximate the poles of the electromagnet. The anchor is attached to the control element. The anchor of the control element may be carried by the synchronization arrangement. The switching arrangement is provided with a timing device which maintains the activation of the electromagnet commencing at the beginning of a work cycle over the major portion of the work cycle.

A steering system for controlling the operation of a warp knitting machine performing the function of a conventional jacquard mechanism includes an electromechanical mechanism to maintain the steering element in one of its two possible terminal positions. The system includes a steering mechanism disposed generally above and in relatively close proximity to the guidebar drive levers of the knitting machine and is operably coupled to a plurality of steering elements which are disposed proximate the guides of the machine. Activation of the electromechanical device coupled to a predetermined programming device causes the steering elements to be maintained in one of its two stable conditions which may be synchronized with the source of machine driving power.
