摘要： A tufting machine for selectively forming tufts of yarns, including different color or type yarns, for forming patterned tufted articles such as carpets. A series of needles are reciprocated into and out of a backing material being fed through the tufting machine and are engaged by a series of gauge parts so as to pick-up loops of yarns from the needles. The gauge parts will be selectively controlled by activators to extend or retract the gauge parts to positions or elevations sufficient to pick-up or not pick-up loops of yarns from the needles. The feeding of the yarns to the needles further will be controlled to back-rob yarns not picked-up by the gauge parts, while the backing feed will be controlled to enable formation of tufts at an increased rate over the pattern stitch rate for the pattern of the tufted article being formed.

摘要： A multi-cylinder module has a common block within which the cylinders are formed and having a piston disposed within each cylinder and an output rod connected to each piston. Pressurized air acts on the piston against the bias of a corresponding spring to drive the respective rod outwardly from the module. Each rod has a coupling member which is coupled to the gate of a hook of a tufting machine having gated hooks for forming both loop and cut pile. The modules are mounted directly to the hook bar of the tufting machine and require no additional linkages between the coupling and the gate with the inherent lost motion and other inefficiencies associated with such additional linkages.

摘要： A tufting process is provided whereby one pile length is cut from a pile material which is to be joined to a backing material by means of a cutting edge after the formation of each loop. Provision is also made for the cutting process to be effected by means of the vibrational cutting movement of a cutting edge, in particular with the aim of improving the cut and reducing wear. In order to implement such a process, a tufting device is provided which incorporates a row of side by side loopers. The loopers move to-and-fro for the purpose of looping the pile material. Each looper includes a base installed in a looper block. A shaft extends from the block and has a nose for collecting the yarn on its front end. The shaft further incorporates a cutting edge configured so as to perform the cutting process. Each looper is adapted to be coupled with a vibrating drive which superimposes a vibrational motion on top of the to-and-fro motion.
