摘要:
The sidestream smoke emanated by a smoking article, such as a cigarette, can be significantly reduced by constructing the smoking article with a double wrapper, one of the wrappers having alkali metal salt burning additives in an amount in the range from about 9 to 20% by weight. A commercially feasible reduced sidestream cigarette can be produced according to this invention, having both wrappers made from a low-porosity flax base, with the inner wrapper containing 11% and the outer wrapper 6% potassium citrate.

An elongated web of paper is treated to render it especially suitable for being gathered transversely and wrapped to make cigarette filters. The treatment includes passing the web through the bight between a pair of rotating rolls provided with intermeshing ribs that do not contact one another and which are arranged generally in planes parallel to their axis of rotation so that the paper is stretched longitudinally in successive transverse areas whereby the paper fibers are loosened and exposed in such areas without complete destruction of the longitudinal continuity of the web. Thereafter the paper is passed through the bight between another pair of rolls provided with narrowly-spaced circumferential intermeshing ribs which do not contact one another and are arranged generally in planes normal to the axis of the rolls so that the paper is grooved parallel to the travel of the web and stretched transversely of these grooves to loosen and expose the fibers even more without destroying the transverse continuity of the web.
摘要:
Humic acid-dyed paper suitable for use as wrappers for smoking articles is post treated with magnesium sulfate to fix or render the humic acid insoluble. Paper treated in this manner provides a product of acceptable brown color. Smoking articles wrapped in the treated paper evolve a reduced amount of carbon monoxide on smoking under normal conditions in comparison to currently available brown papers stained with humic acid.
摘要:
A cigar wrapper is provided having opposed surfaces and a predetermined thickness, said wrapper having a vein-like pattern embossed through the thickness thereof resulting in a raised, vein-like pattern formed on one of the surfaces and a complimentary depressed vein-like pattern formed on the opposite surface. The one surface of the wrapper is treated with colorants to simulate a natural tobacco leaf, and the depressed vein-like pattern on the opposite surface is filled with a filler material. In a preferred embodiment, a second sheet of manufactured cigar wrapper material is laminated in juxtaposition to the opposite surface of the decorated sheet.
摘要:
A cigarette paper wrapper construction to greatly minimize the amount of paper burned, thus the amount of irritating smoke which results from the burning of the paper. A plurality of spots of varying designs, uniformly distributed on the paper, are provided, which spots are non-combustible. The spots may be coated both outwardly and inwardly with non-combustible material, such as aluminum foil, or perhaps the spots may be made noncombustible by coating or impregnating the spots with noncombustible material.
摘要:
The disclosure relates to a film covering for a smoking product wrapper, such as a cigarette wrapper. The wrapper is either porous, or is deliberately perforated with vents or apertures. These openings or vents are covered with a polymeric film made of a polyalkalene oxide, polyvinyl alcohol or copolymer thereof containing butadiene or isoprene units as well as natural gums and resins that has been submitted to a degradation operation. The degradation is chemically produced utilizing an oxidizer/free-radical generator. The degradation facilitates and expedites the removal of film over the apertures by smoke components so that air is permitted to dilute the smoke during the later stages of smoking.

The disclosure relates to a film covering for a smoking product wrapper, such as a cigarette wrapper. The wrapper is either porous, or is deliberately perforated with vents or apertures. These openings or vents are covered with a polymeric film that has been submitted to a degradation operation. The degradation is electrically produced, for example, by irradiation. The degradation expedites the removal of film over the apertures by smoke components so that air is permitted to dilute the smoke during the later stages of smoking.
