    摘要: A heat-activated triggering device, such as for a missile or munition, includes a bi-metal trigger element, with a breakable pin of a first metal surrounded by a sleeve made of a second metal that is different than the first metal. The sleeve may be made of a shape memory alloy, such as a single-crystal shape memory alloy, that is pre-compresses around part of the pin. The sleeve may be configured to put a tension force on the pin as the sleeve passes a predetermined temperature, for instance a temperature at which the shape memory feature of the sleeve is activated. The pin may have a weakened portion, such as a notched portion, at which the pin breaks. The breaking of the pin may be used to drive a firing pin into a primer, to initiate a detonation and/or combustion reaction.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an improved apparatus for safely igniting a pyrotechnic device such as a flare which is suspended by a parachute following deployment from an air craft. More specifically, the present invention relates to a two stage ignition train mechanism for use with parachute suspended illumination flares with an in-line firing pin and physical safety mechanism which blocks movement of the firing pin until the parachute is deployed. The present invention also discloses an embodiment of a two stage ignition train mechanism for use with parachute suspended illumination flares with out-of-line firing pin and physical safety mechanism which blocks the firing pin from striking the primer until the parachute is deployed.

    摘要: A method for actuating an inertial igniter. The method including: moving a mass contained within an interior of a body towards one of a pyrotechnic material or primer when an all-fire acceleration profile is experienced; hermetically sealing the interior of the body from an outside environment; restraining the movable mass from contacting the one of the pyrotechnic material or primer for acceleration profiles less than the all-fire acceleration profile; at least indirectly blocking the movable mass from movement towards the one of the pyrotechnic material or primer under acceleration profiles equal to or greater than the all-fire acceleration profile; and manually removing the blocking such that the movable mass can move towards and contact the one of the pyrotechnic material or primer when the all-fire acceleration profile is experienced to actuate the inertial igniter.

    摘要: A flare (1) for submarine use. The flare (1) is caused to be deployed from a submarine location where it will rise to the surface of the water because of its buoyant casing. A hydrostatic valve means (147) is provided within the casing and it opens when the flare is at or near the surface of the water to render said flare ready to project a flare composition (5) into the air. The hydrostatic valve means (147) is held inoperative by a latch mechanism (51) which is tripped as the flare is deployed from a firing tube at the submarine location. The flare composition (5) cannot be projected into the air until the flare (1) is within a range of vertical attitude determined by inclination means (13). The flare composition (5) cannot be projected into the air until the nose is above water. The flare (1) thus has a sensor (23) at its forward nose to determine that the nose is above the water. A time delay means (87) is provided which is initiated by a pyrotechnic medium (85) used to project the flare composition (5) into the air, to delay ignition of the flare composition (5) until it has at least cleared the surface of the water.

    摘要: An arming firing relock device includes a resiliently biased handle lock, arive shaft, an output shaft or keyed member and a pivot block which may be attached to the exterior surface of a rocket motor. The output shaft may be connected to drive a rocket motor arming firing device. The handle lock moves between a safe position and an armed position via a free position in which the handle lock, drive shaft and output shaft or keyed member may be rotated to control the arming firing device. The pivot block, output shaft or keyed member, drive shaft and handle lock all cooperate to positively lock the arming firing device in the safe or the armed positions respectively, yet enable changing positions without the need for tools.

    摘要: The lanyard that is pulled by a parachute to ignite a flare is cut and a safety coupling inserted. One end of the lanyard is fastened to a small housing that holds a shear pin and a much heavier, acceleration-actuated pin. The other end of the lanyard forms a loop that encompasses both pins. If the lanyard is pulled at low accelerations, the shear pin is broken and the lanyard separates. At high accelerations, however, the acceleration-actuated pin is inserted into the lanyard loop, by force of the acceleration, and prevents separation of the lanyard.

    摘要: A projectile having a chamber containing a propellant charge with an electric igniter and also having a chamber containing an explosive charge with a time delay fuse. The chambers are separated by a wall in which there is a firing pin actuated by pressure from the propellant charge when ignited to start the time delay fuse. The projectile has a safety pin locking the firing pin in ineffective position and which is withdrawable to arm the projectile. The fuse has a detonator spaced from the firing pin and a heat resistant resilient disc is interposed between the firing pin and detonator and is connected about the periphery to the wall on the side facing the detonator while a passage through the wall equalizes the pressures in the chambers.
