    摘要: A discharge lamp provided with a U-shaped discharge tube and an outer envelope surrounding this tube. The bend of the discharge tube is supported with respect to the outer envelope by means of a metal member of sheet material. A few strips of this member engage the bend of the discharge tube. The metal member is composed of two parts twisted together which provide together a substantially light-tight transverse separation between the outer envelope and the discharge tube. The metal member maintains the bend of the operating lamp being kept at a relatively high temperature to improve luminous efficacy.

    摘要: Low-pressure sodium vapor discharge lamp. The lamp comprises a cylindrical discharge tube and an outer bulb enveloping this tube. The outer bulb has a transparent layer which reflects infrared radiation.According to the invention the resistance per square of the infrared reflecting layer is approximately 5 ohm. A luminous efficacy of 100 lumen per watt can be obtained at a lamp power of 8 watts. The lamp is particularly suitable for security lighting.

    摘要: Various sodium vapor lamp configurations are disclosed. In one, a sodium vapor discharge tube contains an excess of sodium which is condensed in predetermined locations, as for example dimples. To prevent condensation in the aperture through which light emission is desired, the discharge tube is heated at the aperture by ohmic heating of a conductive film such as tin oxide or by fine wires. In a second configuration, the discharge tube is coated on the inside with metallic sodium, the coating being internally reflective and defining an aperture, such as a slit, through which light output is directed. The aperture area is coated with a conductive coating such as tin oxide to provide ohmic heating of the aperture area so that metallic sodium condenses on the tube in areas other than the aperture. Thus, an excess of sodium is provided to control the lamp vapor pressure and also to form a light reflective coating to direct emission through the aperture.

A heat-reflecting layer is positioned between the outer envelope and the discharge tube and extends over part of the length of the lamp to keep the reservoirs nearest the electrodes at cooler temperatures.
