    摘要: The invention is directed to an arrangement for simply and inexpensively attaching semirigid coaxial cable to suitable connectors in which the connector is provided with a sleeve having either internal fluting or cross threads. The effective internal diameter of the sleeve is only slightly greater than the external diameter of the outer conductor of the semirigid cable so that when the sleeve is crimped the flutes and/or threads bite into the outer conductor to form a connector-cable bond sufficiently resistant to pull-off, twisting and slipping, while at the same time forming a joint having an acceptably low radio signal power leakage through the crimped interface and so little dimensioning effect on the cable that transmission losses due to internal reflections are maintained acceptably low.

    摘要: An electrical connector is disclosed for terminating semi-rigid coaxial cable, and comprises a grip ring having a continuous rearward end with multiple spline fingers extending forwardly therefrom and grooves on its inner surface, and a bored tubular shell member having a contoured internal diameter to accept the cable and the grip ring and grooves extending along an outer part of the bore of the shell member. The cable is drawn through the grip ring and the shell member, and as the grip ring is press inserted into a rearward end of the shell member, the spline fingers resiliently deflect inwardly along the shell member contour, and embed into the outer semi-rigid cable sheath to establish electrical contact therewith and the grooved bore score the outside surface of the grip ring during its movement into engagement with the cable sheath which causes the grooves of the grip ring to score the cable sheath, thereby providing antitorque connection therebetween.

    摘要: A continuous strip of thermoplastic articles, such as electrical connecting device housings, has first and second portions defined by bands which extend along the entire length of the strip. The first band is of a first thermoplastic material which has optimum properties and characteristics for the parts of the articles which lie in the first band and the second band is of a second thermoplastic material which has optimum properties and characteristics for those portions of the article which lie in the second band of the continuous strip. In the case where the articles are connector housings, the first band may be of a material which has superior crimping characteristics while the second band may be of a material having optimum firmness and strength. The strip is manufactured by a continuous thermoplastic molding process in which the two materials are continuously extruded through a nozzle and into an endless series of side-by-side cavities in a molding wheel while the surface of the wheel was continuously moving past the nozzle.

    摘要: A carrier strip having a plurality of electrical terminals thereon is stamped and formed with alternating tab and recess portions. The carrier strip is adapted to be conveyed through an insertion machine which severs the terminals from the strip and inserts the terminals into a workpiece. To achieve closer spacing of the terminals and consequent increase in speed of terminal insertion within a workpiece, the carrier strip is adapted for stacking upon itself to provide multiple layers of carrier strips which are conveyed simultaneously to the insertion machine. For effective registration and interlocking of the stacked layers the carrier strip is purposely provided with a stamped and formed interlocking geometry. Multiple lengths of carrier strips according to the present invention may be conveyed simultaneously to an insertion machine where stacked registration is accomplished immediately prior to the insertion station of the machine.

    摘要: An electrical connector shielded contact assembly allows easy termination of coaxial cables by simultaneous crimping of coaxial cable conductors to the contact assembly in a single operation. Users installation comprises stripping of the cable to bare the inner and braided outer conductors, sliding of the inner and outer conductors respectively into and onto the contact assembly, slipping a ring over the braided outer conductor, and simultaneously crimping both the outer conductor and the inner conductor to the contact assembly. This operation is enabled by constructing the coaxial contact assembly from a stamped and formed outer contact configured as a housing utilizing dovetails on the seam for strength, an inner pin or socket contact, and suitable insulators therebetween. The housing and the inner contact have reliefs therebetween so that, when assembling an inner plastic dielectric component together with the inner pin or socket contact into place within the housing, the dielectric flows into the reliefs between the inner contact and the housing to form a stable and strong assembly. Windows in the outer housing permit subsequent simultaneous crimping of the inner and outer coaxial cable conductors respectively to the inner contact and the housing, with the inner crimp being aligned and protected by the dielectric component which serves the further purpose of controlling the differential span of electrical characteristics, that is, the dielectric constant, between the coaxial cable and the coaxial contact.
