摘要: The present invention relates to a firearm projectile capable of releasing a secondary payload mid-flight through a pyrotechnic timing mechanism. Once the firearm is fired, the powder in the casing pushes out the projectile as a typical round. In addition, the powder ignites the delay column. The formulation and amount of delay pyrotechnics determines the delay time. When the delay column is burned, the final portion ignites an expelling charge. The expelling charge builds pressure in the projectile casing and separates the base plug from the main projectile housing. The expelling assembly pushes out the secondary payload out the rear of the projectile. Although the payload exits the rear of the projectile at minimum velocity, the net velocity of the payload is still in the forward direction.

摘要: The present invention relates to a substantially spheroidal fragmentation device (10). The fragmentation device (10) comprises: i) a protective exterior layer (6) of resilient material accommodating at least one warhead (9); ii) an inner core (11) protected by said exterior layer (6). The inner core (11) comprises: ii.a) an insensitive munition (IM); ii.b) a polymeric, plastic and/or rubbery matrix embedding the insensitive munition (IM); ii.c) explosive material (5) enclosed within the matrix of ii.b) and/or surrounding the matrix of ii.b). The ratio of the thickness of the protective exterior layer (6) to the radius of the fragmentation device (10) ranges from 0.1:1 to 0.7:1. The warhead (9) is accommodated within the protective exterior layer (6) or between the inner core (11) and the protective exterior layer (6). The invention also relates to a method of firing a fragmentation device (10) as disclosed herein, wherein a firearm is aimed at a surface enabling rebounding of the fragmentation device (10) whereby the fragmentation device (10) changes direction. The invention also relates to the use of a fragmentation device (10) as disclosed herein in a firearm.

摘要: A method of making a fragmenting structure for an explosive device includes placing a volume of fragments of a deformable metal material into a press mold, the fragments having sufficient surface adhesiveness to adhere to each other upon being compressed together, e.g., by coating the fragments with adhesive. The fragments are compressed together in the press mold to form the fragmenting structure as a rigid and substantially void-free structure of compression-deformed, mutually adhering metal fragments, the fragmenting structure being sized and shaped for subsequent incorporation into the explosive device. An explosive device includes an explosive charge and a fragmenting structure adjacent to the explosive charge, the fragmenting structure being a rigid and substantially void-free structure of compression-deformed, mutually adhering metal fragments. The structure may have been manufactured by the disclosed method.

摘要: A fragmentation munition has a fragmentation canister containing preformed fragments, and an explosive cartridge that fits into a central hole in the fragmentation canister. The explosive cartridge includes an outer shell, and an explosive within the outer shell. The munition may be configured to precisely deliver fragments to a relatively small area, such as an area that is a few meters in radius. Toward that end the explosive may be configured primarily to rupture the housing and secondarily to spread fragments over a limited area. The main kinetic energy of the fragments is from the acceleration they gain as part of the munition falls from a launcher, such as a carrier aircraft. The dispersed fragments may have a similar downward velocity after controlled dispersal by the explosive, allowing them considerable kinetic energy (considerable penetrating power), but with a precisely controlled dispersal area.
