Abstract: A venetian blind (10) having forwardly cantilevered and rearwardly counter-weighted slats (16), and at least a partially recessed vertical system (18) connected to the slats (16) for raising and lowering the slats (16) independently of their tilted position and for spacing, supporting and tilting the cantilevered slats (16) from an essentially horizontal open viewing position to a forwardly tilted fully sealed position (e.g., full or none), and wherein the vertical system (18) is hidden from view when the slats (16) are in their sealed position, to thereby provide a clean blind appearance. The venetian blind (10) raises and lowers the blind independently of the position of its tiltable slats (16) and hides the vertical members (20, 22) and cords (26) of the recessed vertical system (18) and their respective slat openings (36, 38) in the slats from view from at least one side, preferably from the room interior, when the slats (16) are in their fully sealed position. The interacting elements of the venetian blind (10) provide a venetian blind (10) that has great versatility, is attractive, and has room darkening and privacy features.

Abstract: A food press, having an elongated body (21) including a forward end (23) with perforations (24) through which pressed foodstuffs can pass, and chamber means (22) adjacent said forward end for receiving and pressing foodstuffs. A reciprocating piston (40) is slidably fitted within the chamber means (22) for moving and pressing foodstuffs, wherein the piston is adapted to be positioned rearwardly of the foodstuffs in the chamber means in its retracted position. The press also has a rotatable handle (50) pivotally connected to the elongated body (21) rearwardly of the piston, and linking means (60) which are connected to the handle (50) and to the piston (40). When the handle (50) is rotated in one direction the piston (40) is moved to its retracted position to allow the chamber means (22) to receive foodstuffs. When the handle (50) is rotated in the other direction the piston (40) is moved to its forward position for pressing foodstuffs through the perforations (24).
