Abstract: The invention relates to a tipping paper for a smoking article (1), which tipping paper forms the outermost layer of the casing of the filter. The tipping paper (1) is provided with locally limited raised areas (3, 13, 23) that are formed by hardened lacquer. Between the raised areas (3, 13, 23), surface regions (2) of the tipping paper (1) are provided, above which the raised areas (3, 13, 23) protrude by at least 5 mum in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the tipping paper (1).
