Abstract:
An accelerator neutron source (ANS) including a field ionization (FI) array configured to generate deuterium and tritium ions and a plasma for containing the deuterium and tritium ions produced by the FI array. The ANS also includes a target comprising deuterium and tritium ions and the ANS is configured to accelerate deuterium and tritium ions produced by the FI array toward the target to generate neutrons by applying a voltage to an accelerating electrode
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described herein for coupling electromagnetic (EM) energy from a remotely-located primary antenna into a plasma ion source. The EM energy is radiated by a first by through an intermediary secondary antenna. The embodiments described herein enable the elevation of the plasma ion source to a high electric potential bias relative to the primary antenna, which can be maintained at or near a grounded electric potential.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to combined moderator/target structures that significantly increase the initial energy spectrum of neutrons generated in a nuclear reactor within the thermal range of said spectrum. Said combined moderator/target structures can be applied in all cases, wherein the neutron-capture cross-section of the target - or a certain isotope therein - is at least 2.0 barn for thermal neutrons.

Abstract:
A neutron tube. At least some of the illustrative embodiments including: generating, from a neutron tube, a first neutron burst having a first characteristic energy spectra; and generating, from the neutron tube, a second neutron burst having a second characteristic energy spectra different than the first characteristic energy spectra, the generating the second neutron burst within one second of generating the first neutron burst.
Abstract:
An electronic radiation generator includes a housing, a high voltage power supply, with -dielectric gas molecules inside the housing, at least some of the gas molecules to degrade into constituent components during operation of the particle generator. There is a metal-oxide-based sensor inside the housing to indicate presence of the constituent components. The sensor may indicate the presence of the constituent components by detecting corrosive molecules formed by a reaction between the constituent components, residual water vapor and electrical corona.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a Time-of-Flight based neutron inspection system. The system employs a collimated beam of fast neutrons for targeted interrogation of suspect areas in cargo. Elemental composition is determined as a function of depth. Analysis is then used to determine the presence of contraband. The system may be used for secondary inspection for material discrimination to reduce false alarm rate and high cost and time associated with manual unpacking.
Abstract:
An apparatus for generating medical isotopes provides an annular fissile solution vessel surrounding a neutron generator. The annular fissile solution vessel provides for good capture of the emitted neutrons and a geometry that provides enhanced stability in an aqueous reactor. A neutron multiplier and/or a neutron moderator may be used to improve the efficiency and control the criticality of the reaction in the annular fissile solution vessel.
