Abstract: A method of making a decorative member for a vehicle component comprises the steps of: (a) making a decorative member as a subassembly (10, 40) of a vehicle component by: (i) forming a pliable component (12) comprising leather or simulated leather to a predetermined shape; (ii) attaching one or more decorative components (15, 30) to the pliable component (12); and (iii) securing the pliable component (12) to a decorative component (15, 30) prior to attaching the subassembly (10, 40) to an underlying structure of a vehicle component such as the rim of a steering wheel (2).

Abstract: A decorative member for a vehicle component is a subassembly (10, 40) of the vehicle component such as a steering wheel (2). The subassembly (10, 40) is attached to the vehicle component. The subassembly has a pliable component (12) comprising leather or simulated leather. A decorative element (14, 15) is adhered to or otherwise attached to the pliable component (12). A means for securing (13, 13A-13F) adheres or attaches the decorative element (14, 15) to the pliable component (12) to form the subassembly (10, 40) prior to the attachment of the subassembly (10, 40) to the vehicle component (2).
