Abstract:
A disclosed service management system communicates via wide area network (WAN) with gateway devices at various user premises, to remotely manage delivery of application services and/or features thereof by the gateway device(s), based on service subscriptions of customers associated with the gateway devices. In the examples, a subscription manager provides information through the WAN identifying the applications services or features to be enabled, to each respective gateway device. Also, a service manager, controlled by the subscription manager, distributes service specific configuration data to logic implementing server functionality for the application services in the gateway devices, responsive to requests from the gateway devices. The system also includes a gateway device updater, responsive to requests received from the gateway devices, for downloading service logic modules for implementing application services or service features to the gateway devices, via the wide area network, for application services or features identified by the service manager.
Abstract:
A system for providing and managing file sharing services of one or more endpoint devices comprise a first interface for enabling bi-directional communications with one or more of the endpoint devices associated with the gateway device, and a second interface for enabling bi-directional communications via a wide-area network, for the one or more endpoint devices associated with the gateway device. A processor is coupled to the interfaces and is configured to manage file sharing through presence and networking messaging communication between the one or more endpoint devices associated with the gateway device and at least another endpoint device (associated with the gateway device or not), to access a file to share received from the one or more endpoint devices associated with the gateway device or from endpoint devices not associated with the gateway device. The processor selectively makes the accessed file available to the one or more endpoint devices.
Abstract:
A bridge device (32), for coupling a parallel bus (28) to a packet network (34), includes a bus interface adapter (40),coupled to the parallel bus so as to receive bus cycles from a master device (22) on the bus. An outbound packet register (52), having a bus address in an address space of the bus, is adapted to store an outbound network address header and payload data written to the bus address of the register by the master device in one or more of the bus cycles received by the bus interface adapter. A network interface adapter (42) is coupled to the network so as to transmit over the network an outbound packet containing the outbound network address header and payload data from the register, to a target device (36) on the network specified by the network address header.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is provided for searching a knowledge base to determine whether a search object matches any of a plurality of knowledge base entries. When the knowledge base includes a partially matched entry, the group of partially matched entries (elements (3, 5, 7, 9, and 11) in the figure) is identified. Thereafter, at least one previously unselected search object bit is selected and examined to determine whether the group of partially matched entries includes a further matched entry the represents the same bit pattern in its bit that corresponds to the previously unselected search object bit and when it does not, the search is terminated indicating no match.
Abstract:
A hybrid access system and method using a hybrid access system point of presence router (26) and a remote link adapter (60) to connect a user computer terminal (2) to a network (20) for fast downstream information transfer by high speed information broadcasting with lower speed upstream information transfer through an independent upstream channel to the hybrid access system point of presence router. High speed downstream information transfer passes through a cable TV headend or a TV transmitter or a cell station (28).
Abstract:
A telephone system wherein a plurality of subscriber locations (12) are connected by signal processing circuits (18) to a single subscriber loop (16) to signal processing circuits (24) at the central office (14) for the transmission and reception of digital voice and data information. The signal process in circuits (18, 24) provide for assembly and disassembly of the information. Gateways (46, 47, 48, 49) are provided for each type of information to provide for the proper routing of the different types of information.
Abstract:
A vital-signs patch for a patient monitoring system that includes a housing containing a sensor that makes physiological measurements of a patient, a transmitter, a receiver, a memory, and a processor. The processor periodically takes a measurement from the sensor, converts the measurement to a data record, and stores the data record in the memory. Upon receipt of a signal from another device, the processor retrieves at least a portion of the data record, converts the retrieved portion of the data record to a vital-sign signal, and causes the transmitter to transmit the vital-sign signal to the other device.
Abstract:
A gateway device is disclosed for deployment at user premises, which offers applications services similar to those of a server from the premises, albeit managed by a service management center via the network. For each application service, gateway programming provides application server communication with a client functionality of an endpoint device, for the respective service, communicated on top of network layer communications within the premises and through the wide area network. The application service logic in the gateway device also enforces authorization, authentication, configuration, or use of the service via the endpoint device. Management of the application service is responsive to communications with the service management center via the wide area network. A gateway device of this type, for example, may offer PC or TV type user interfaces. The gateway also may establish peer-to-peer communications with other similar devices.
Abstract:
A gateway device for operation at a user premises to provide and manage application services provided for endpoint devices associated with the gateway device. The gateway device includes a communications client program to enable client-server communications between the gateway device and a remote communications server via the wide area network using a presence and networking message protocol. The gateway device utilizes at least one driver program with a driver communications protocol to communicate with, control, and manage associated endpoint devices. The communications client program interacts with the driver program, and the gateway device is configured to specify which associated endpoint devices, attributes and operations are exposed to the network via the communications client. The gateway device is configured to specify rules for presentation and/or notification of incoming presence and networking messages to the gateway device and the routing of those messages to the managed endpoint device through their respective drivers.
Abstract:
The disclosed examples of a system for providing and managing backup and restore services of one or more endpoint devices comprise at least one gateway device at a user premises and a service management center. The gateway device has a first interface for enabling bi-directional communications with one or more of the endpoint devices associated with the gateway device, a second interface for enabling bi-directional communications for the one or more endpoint devices via a wide area network, and for enabling at least some bidirectional communications with at least one storage area external to the user premises via the wide area network. The gateway device also has a processor configured to manage backups and restores of data between the one or more of the endpoint devices and the at least one storage area. The service management center is external to the user premises and communicates with the gateway device via the wide area network, and controls access by the gateway device to the at least one storage area.
