There are disclosed various processes, apparatuses and systems for treating a halogen-containing gas such as F2 that involve generating a plasma in order to reduce chemically the halogen-containing gas into products that are more environmentally manageable. According to a particular embodiment, a reducing agent is mixed with the halogen-containing gas to produce a feed gas mixture and a non-thermal plasma is generated in the feed gas mixture in the presence of liquid water. According to another embodiment, a vaporized portion of a liquid reducing agent is mixed with the halogen-containing gas to produce a reaction mixture and a non-thermal plasma is generated in the reaction gas mixture to reduce the halogen-containing gas.

The filter units each comprise a filter adapted to a specific component or group of components to be removed from the waste gases. The waste gases-neutralizing device preferably also comprises, in addition to the filter installation, a neutralizing unit 21 comprising a neutralizing liquid bath or a fixed connection impregnated with a neutralizing liquid. The waste gases-neutralizing device preferably also comprises a UV generator.

A process for nondestructive heating and supplying of ammonia feed gas wherein high quality ammonia (typically greater than 90 % and as high as 99 %) is preserved at temperatures well in excess of the conventional limit of 230 DEG C (typically from 400 to 700 DEG C) by controlling the selection of metal surfaces in contact with the hot gas, the bulk temperature of the gas, the wall temperature, the pressure, the contact time, and the spatial surface density. Such hot gases are particularly useful for the manufacture of hydrogen cyanide.

A first gas stream flows into the reaction chamber (1) through nozzles (7) and a second gas stream flows into the water through nozzles (11). The reaction chamber (1) has a throat (8) in the region of which the nozzles (7) located in the reaction chamber (1) are arranged. The gaseous reaction products (16) flow out of the fume cupboard (3). This device is characterised in that the nozzles (7) arranged in the reaction chamber (1) are inclined towards the water surface (9) and have an angle of inclination of 12 to 16 DEG with respect to the horizontal. The diameter of the reaction chamber (1) is reduced by 20 to 30 % in the region of the throat (8) and the throat (8) is arranged in the reaction chamber (1) in such a manner that 20 to 30 % of the height of the reaction chamber (1) are located between the water surface (9) and the throat (8) and 80 to 70 % of the height of the reaction chamber (1) are located between the throat (8) and the fume hood (3). This device is used for burning gas and combustion gas and for carrying out chemical gas reactions.
