Abstract:
A push-pull tool for setting multi-piece fasteners (16) includes a piston (10) that is movable back and forth within a cylinder (12) in response to fluid forces on opposite faces of the piston (10). One of the fluids is an air-oil foam mixture that acts essentially as an incompressible liquide force-transmitter, while being somewhat compressible so as to absorb shock loadings associated with rapid piston movements. A check valve (55) is included in the system to admit atmospheric air into the air-oil foam mixture, to thereby partially compensate for oil leakage that might inadvertantly take place across the piston seals.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a rivet setting tool comprising a holding element (5) for holding a blind rivet (2, 3) before being set by the tool. Said holding element (5) comprises a central, cylindrical passage, the diameter thereof being slighter bigger than the diameter of the rivet pin. At least two, preferably three clamping jaws (10), which are introduced into radial slots (7) so that they can be displaced in a radial and axial manner, interact on the rivet pins. The width of the slots is smaller than the diameter of the rivet pin.
Abstract:
A fastener installation tool for installing breakstem fasteners, wherein a part of the fastener is broken off during installation and ejected into a collector bottle, provided with a safety disabling means, comprising a valve located in series with and between the tool trigger and main operating valve, wherein removal of the collector bottle causes the valve to close to prevent operation of the main operating valve, thereby to prevent use of the tool with the connector bottle disconnected.
Abstract:
In a fastener tool, a constant flow of compressed air is supplied. When the tool is not in use however the constant flow of compressed air results in wastage. The tool is therefore provided with a trigger (10) that is adapted when in a first position to stop the flow of compressed air through the tool in order to disable the tool and when in a second position to actuate installation means.
Abstract:
A rivet setting tool is provided with a mandrel collection system. The mandrel collection system uses a valve system to provide high and low vacuum states to draw rivet mandrels into a collection bottle. The low vacuum state provides an energy savings and reduced noise levels.
Abstract:
A rivet gun includes a pneumatic motor (4), that drives a segment stem (7). A pneumatic cylinder (21) actuates a hydraulic cylinder (22) which sends oil under pressure to an expansion chamber (10) provided for moving back the segment stem (7) and buckling the rivet (2) fixing it to a laminate structure (100). The rivet gun also includes a change-over switching device (30) linked to controls (50, 60) for reversing rotation of the motor (4). The controls (60) include an inlet valve (61) operated by a trigger (64) for connecting a compressed air infeed duct (14) with a feed-discharge duct (23) leading to the pneumatic cylinder (21). A discharge valve (63) is disposed in series with the inlet valve (61) and has an adjustment ring (176) for adjusting of the maximum traction force. Another discharge valve (90) is disposed in series with the discharge valve (63) previously mentioned and is provided for adjustment of the stroke of the segment stem (7).
Abstract:
In a fastener installation tool which is pneumatically powered to instal a blind rivet or bolt by a relative pulling action, a pneumatic/hydraulic intensifier (12, 13) is included to actuate hydraulically the pulling stroke of a head piston (22) which provides the relative pulling action. It is desirable to design such tools so that they have increased levels of safety for the persons using and operating them. In such a tool, there is provided a safety device comprising: valve means for disabling the supply of air to one side of a pneumatic piston (15) and cylinder device and a push-rod (51) operative connected to the valve means and extending along the inside of the air supply conduit; the push-rod normally contacting the displaceable end (43) of the cylinder when the displaceable end is in its safe position so as to operate the valve means to allow the supply of air to the pneumatic chamber, and the push-rod being movable, when the displaceable end of the cylinder is displaced from its safe position, to operate the valve means so as to disable the supply of air under pressure to the cylinder on the aforesaid side of the piston.
Abstract:
In a fastener installation tool, return of a head piston (22) is effected by the application of air under pressure to the rear side of the piston. The end of the head cylinder body on the rear side of the piston is provided with a removable end member (34) which is displaceable away from a position in which it is safely secured to the head cylinder body (14). Also, the tool further includes a safety device in the form of air vent means (64) which, if the end member is displaced beyond a predetermined amount, opens to vent air under pressure from the head cylinder body on the rear side of the head piston (22), thereby preventing the return of the head piston and thus the further operation of the tool.
