Abstract:
The invention relates to foundry binder systems which use modified polyisocyanates. The modified polyisocyanates are prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate with an aliphatic alcohol having one active hydrogen atom. These modified polyisocyanates, along with a phenolic resole resin, are added to a foundry aggregate to form a foundry mix which is shaped and cured with a gaseous amine curing catalyst.
Abstract:
Mineral lubricant base oils (e.g., neutral oils) can be added to asphalt composition to improve low temperature properties at low addition rates (e.g., oil 1-5 %). Rerefined oils (boiling above 177 DEG C (350 DEG F)) have the same properties as virgin mineral lubricant base oils, but most rerefined oils are too dark in color to be used as lube oil base stocks. Their use in asphalt would be ideal as color is not a problem and they are much cheaper in cost than virgin base oils. This can permit disposing of rerefined motor oil. The resulting asphalt compositions exhibit important improvements in low temperature properties, resistance to thermal cracking and expanded useful temperature range.
Abstract:
A plural-zone molten metal ion gasifier for converting feeds containing hydrogen and carbon, such as propane, solvent deasphalted pitch, etc., into substantially pure hydrogen and CO/CO2 streams under pressure by incorporating carbo into the molten metal in a first zone or vessel, then circulating the molten metal into contact with an oxygen-containing gas in a second zone or vessel. Preferably hydrogen is primarily produced in a third zone or vessel, and carbon oxides in a second zone or vessel. A one-meter diameter vessel can produce 20 million standard cubic feet per day of hydrogen at a pressure in the range 2 to 50 atm from methane using this invention.

Abstract:
This invention relates to exothermic and/or insulating sleeves, their method of preparation, and their use. The sleeves are prepared by shaping a sleeve mix comprising (1) a sleeve composition capable of providing a sleeve, and (2) a chemical binder. The sleeves are cured in the presence of a catalyst by the cold-box or no-bake curing process. The invention also relates to a process for casting metal parts using a casting assembly where the sleeves are a component of the casting assembly. Additionally, the invention relates to the metal parts produced by the casting process.
Abstract:
This invention is a thermoplastic saturated polyester low profile additive (low profile additive) useful in sheet molding compounds for parts, especially vehicle parts. The additive has a major component derived from aromatic compounds such as terephthalic acid including recycled polyethylene terephthalate. Asymmetrical glycols are an important ingredient and can be used to digest recycled PET to make oligomeric glycols which are reacted with acids having fewer than 12 carbon atoms to make one of the low profile additives of this invention.

A tacky pressure sensitive water-borne acrylic emulsion adhesive composition prepared with >1 % multifunctional monomer has Tg 90 % gel content and is web coatable. The dried adhesive film anchors readily and remains easily removeable from diverse substrates.
Abstract:
Mineral fines such as coal fines are agglomerated structures into briquettes or tablets by a cold roll-press operation using as a binder an ester-cured alkaline phenol-formaldehyde resole resin together with an oxyanion to enhance green strength.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an intermittent process for inhibiting the settlement of zebra mussels in the post-veliger state in addition to providing infestation control of zebra mussels in the veliger state. The process comprises (a) connecting a chlorine dioxide generator to an entry means, such as a water intake pipe (4) or reservoir, of a flowing aqueous system containing a population of zebra mussel veligers and post-veligers, (b) pumping specified amounts of chlorine dioxide into said aqueous system.
Abstract:
There is disclosed an additive system comprised of magnesium-sulfonate and t-alkyl primary amines admixed into the fuel oil wherein the magnesium sulfonate content is from 5 to 15 part per part of the vanadium content in the fuel oil and the t-alkyl primary amines content is 0.1 to 2 parts per part of the magnesium sulfonate. An alkanoic acid in an amount of from 0.1 to 2 part per part of magnesium sulfonate may also be added to the basic additive system of the present invention.
