The present disclosure provides for a system and method for treating a wastewater stream by measuring the level of a contaminant, adding a treatment fluid and mixing them in an inline mixer and then by means of a custom spray head inside a mixing tank. The treated effluent from the tank can be further treated in a similar fashion in successive treatment tanks before being discharged. The contaminant can be an out-of-range pH, particulate matter or dissolved metals.

A control valve for a reverse osmosis water purifying system provides a feed water port, a squeeze water port, a drain port, and a product water connection, each of which open into a bore. A first, second, and third O-rings are located in the bore successively between the feed water port, the squeeze water port, the drain port, and the product water connection. A control piston is moveably located in the bore of the housing. The control piston includes a vent/drain well in which a side is chamfered. The vent/drain well provides a fluid passage between the squeeze water port and the drain port when the vent/drain well passes over the second O-ring. The fluid passage includes an opening formed between the second O-ring and the chamfered side of the vent/drain well, where the size of the opening is responsive to the position of the control piston.

A method for electrochemically purifying water which comprises transporting a flow of water to be purified through a bed of metallic particles confined in a reactor and subjected to electrical voltage, the metal of the particles being electrochemically dissolved into the water in order to promote chemical reactions which facilitate the purification of the water and consequently said particles being consumed, the method comprising monitoring the consumption of said particles in the reactor without draining the reactor of water to be purified; and introducing new particles into the reactor if the consumption of particles reaches a predetermined reference threshold value, it being possible to monitor the consumption of the particles by monitoring the mass of the particles in the reactor, preferably by weighing the reactor and the content thereof.

In some embodiments, a method may include treating pulp in pulp and paper mills. The methods may include providing a peracetate oxidant solution and generating a reactive oxygen species. The peracetate solution may include peracetate anions and a peracid. In some embodiments, the peracetate solution may include a pH from about pH 10 to about pH 12. In some embodiments, the peracetate solution has a molar ratio of peracetate anions to peracid ranging from about 60:1 to about 6000:1. In some embodiments, the peracetate solution has a molar ratio of peracetate to hydrogen peroxide of greater than about 16:1. The peracetate oxidant solution may provide enhanced treatment methods of bleaching, brightening, and delignifying pulp fibers involving the use of peracetate oxidant solutions.
