Abstract:
A device for irrigating a canal during a root canal treatment or retreatment provides a fluid reservoir in fluid communication with at least one pump for delivering an irrigant under pressure. A hand-held wand has a proximal end for receiving the irrigant under pressure, permitted to flow through the wand head by an actuator. An irrigant delivery needle which affixed to the working end of the wand delivers irrigant through at least one irrigant dispersion orifice at a selected delivery angle and pressure. Aspirating means and/or shielding may optionally be provided.
Abstract:
An oral irrigator including a handle through which fluid flows to a tip. Fluid flows to the tip during irrigate mode, and fluid flow may be interrupted by selecting a pause mode. The handle includes a mechanically controlled actuator for selecting the pause mode. The actuator may include a rack gear operably connected to a pinion gear formed on a valve spool inside the handle. The valve spool may include a ball that blocks fluid flow to the tip during pause mode but not during irrigate mode.
Abstract:
An apparatus for treating a tooth or gum tissue is disclosed. The apparatus can include a tooth cap for supporting a treatment device during a treatment procedure. The tooth cap can comprise a platform to support the treatment device. The platform can include an access port to provide a portion of the treatment device with access to a treatment region of the tooth or gum tissue. The tooth cap can also include a wall coupled with and angled relative to the platform, the wall configured to be attached to the tooth or gum tissue during treatment.
Abstract:
A dental treatment system can include a console, a tooth coupler, and an interface member that provides at least one of fluidic, electrical, mechanical, and data communication between the tooth coupler and the console. The tooth coupler (which may comprise a handpiece or a treatment cap) can act as a working end of the system to administer a suitable treatment procedure, such as a cleaning procedure, an obturation procedure, a restoration procedure, etc. The tooth coupler can removably engage the interface member such that the clinician can easily engage and disengage the tooth coupler and interface member.
Abstract:
The apparatus includes a motor (20) which drives a first compound gear (28) having first and second portions (26, 32), the second portion driving a second compound gear (36). The second compound gear has one portion (38) which has teeth over only one half the circumference thereof. The apparatus further includes an air cylinder (12) and a rack (62) and a spring assembly (66) a sealing end portion (64) of the rack fitting in a fluid-tight relationship with the air cylinder, wherein the rack member is engaged by the one portion of the second compound gear, compressing the spring when the teeth thereon engage the rack member. When the no-teeth portion comes adjacent the rack member, the rack is released and the sealing end of the rack member is forced by action of the spring into the air cylinder, producing bursts of air. The second compound gear also drives a peristaltic pump, producing liquid in bursts which are directed to a mixing chamber 58, from which a stream of liquid droplets exit through exit 16.
Abstract:
An oral care system that provides a beneficial effect to an oral cavity of a mammal by using a liquid effective for providing the beneficial effect, where the system includes means for directing the liquid onto a plurality of surfaces of the oral cavity, means for providing the liquid to the means for directing the liquid onto the surfaces of the oral cavity, means for providing reciprocation of the liquid over the plurality of surfaces under conditions effective to provide the beneficial effect; and a reservoir for containing the liquid.
Abstract:
The clearing system for fluid droplets includes a source of air (10) which is produced at a given velocity and an air flow directing member (15) for directing the air flow to an area on the teeth which has thereon a liquid film (19) produced by previous landing of high-speed fluid droplets, wherein the velocity of the air flow is high enough to significantly reduce the thickness of the liquid film and thereby increase the efficiency of the fluid droplets in the cleared area on the teeth.
Abstract:
The system includes a reservoir for fluid; a droplet generator for creating a stream of fluid droplets from the fluid wherein the velocity of the stream of droplets is within a range of 20 meters per second to 200 meters per second and the size of the droplets is within a range of 5 microns to 200 microns. A nozzle or nozzles direct the stream of droplets to safely clean a selected tooth or teeth surface area. The specific momentum of effective fluid droplets within the stream of fluid droplets is important in safe and effective cleaning.
Abstract:
This portable appliance can be used to clean teeth by a liquid containing dissolved ozone.Preferably, its cleaning action is enhanced by pulsations of the liquid stream. The dissolved ozone can reduce or eliminate gingivitis, gum bleeding, bad breath, teeth stains, and harmful oral bacteria. This appliance can also be used for nasal irrigation for sinusitis treatment and for ear irrigation, eye care, and general cleaning. Additionally, since its output pump (34) is independent of the ozone dissolving system (19), the ozone dissolving system can be configured as an add on device for an oral irrigator such as a Water PikTM. In this configuration, the ozonated liquid is delivered by either gravity or pumped flow, to a reservoir in connection with the irrigator (35) that serves as the delivery portion of this invention.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a tooth cleaning device which comprises: a delivery-suction device for a cleaning fluid that is configured in such a manner that it alternately ejects the liquid and removes the same by suction; a line (12), which is connected with one end to the outlet of the delivery-suction device, and; an end-piece (13) for placing against the teeth (34), which is connected to the other end of the line (12).
