Abstract:
A toothbrush comprises a head including a plurality of cleaning elements attached to the head, a handle, a neck extending between the head and the handle, a motor unit including a motor and a manual winder for manually energizing the motor, and a force sensor configured to detect a user-applied force exceeding a predetermined threshold force, wherein the force sensor causes the toothbrush to produce at least one of an audible signal and a tactile signal when the user-applied force exceeds a predetermined threshold force. An audible signal and a tactile signal may comprise, respectively, muting of the motor and interruption of vibration of the toothbrush.
Abstract:
RESONANCE TUNING OF THE BRISTLE STRUCTURE FOR A POWER TOOTHBRUSH A brushhead assembly (10) for a power toothbrush (1), which includes a bristle plate (12) and a set of bristles (14) mounted to the bristle plate (12). The set of bristles (14) is characterized such that some or all of the bristles have a dipole whip motion during operation at a selected drive frequency, including arrangements where the bristles in a first portion (32) have a different motion than the bristles at a at least a second portion (34) of the brushhead assembly (10).
Abstract:
A tooth brush device having bristle touch-points composed of a polymer material (e.g., silicone) provides improved biofilm removal from teeth. The tooth brush device comprises a head with an apex, a base opposite the apex, a front surface, and a back surface opposite the front surface. The front surface of the head includes bristle touch-points arranged along rows. The rows are arranged orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the head extending from the apex of the head to the base of the head. Each of a plurality of the bristle touch-points is a single solid elongate structure extending from the head and is composed of a polymer material. The device further includes a neck coupled to the base of the head and a handle coupled to the head via the neck..
Abstract:
An oral care appliance comprises an gas-liquid cleaning assembly which comprises a fluid pump assembly (46); a source of liquid (50); and a source of gas(12). The pump is in operative communication with the sources of liquid and gas to produce a series of gas-injected fluid pulses, directed to a nozzle assembly (80) from which the resulting pulses are directed to the teeth by a user. The individual pulses have a pulse width within the range of 0.001-0.5 seconds, a pulse height from 0.1-10 Newtons, a rise/fall time range of 0.5-250 ms, a repetition rate in the range of 2Hz to 20Hz. The gas/liquid mixture range from 40-95% volume to volume, gas to liquid. The appliance also includes a mechanical teeth cleaning assembly, in combination with the gas-liquid assembly. The mechanical assembly includes a drive system (160) and a brush assembly in operative contact with the drive system, the brush assembly having a set of bristles (152) at the distal end thereof, wherein in operation, the nozzle assembly is positioned within the brush assembly.
Abstract:
A toothbrush training system for children includes an instrumented toothbrush with physics sensors, along with optional feedback elements, interacting with a dynamic audio-visual instructional program providing guidance, assessment and feedback on proper brushing procedures. The system provides instruction on tooth brushing technique in combination with monitoring and corrective feedback based on that technique in the context of an audio-visual game environment. The instructional program uses an animated character to illustrate the desired toothbrush positioning and movement for cleaning specific tooth surfaces. The content and progress of the audio-visual presentation may be dynamically altered based on data received from the toothbrush to adjust the presentation in response to a comparison of the instructional information and the actual tooth brushing movement performed by the user.
Abstract:
Provided is a dental handpiece adapter connection system, dental handpiece adapter connection method, and a dental handpiece adapter. The dental handpiece adapter includes a first portion configured to engage a dental device having a first geometry and a second portion configured to engage a dental handpiece having a second geometry. The first portion being engaged with the adapter and the second portion being engaged with the adapter permits the dental handpiece to rotate a rotatable portion of the dental device.

Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a dental scaler for removing accumulated deposits from the teeth, having a low manufacturing cost so as to be widely used at home. The dental scaler includes a first casing adapted to serve a grip; a power supply-receiving section and a motor installed at the inside of a first casing serving as a grip, wherein the power supply-receiving section is adapted to contain a power supply device therein and a rotating speed of the motor is adjustable by a first switch. A vibrator is eccentrically installed at a driving shaft of the motor to be selectively in electrical contact with a second switch for connecting or disconnecting a power of an electromagnet. An electromagnet-receiving section is formed at the front end portion of the first casing, for containing the electromagnet therein.
Abstract:
A powered toothbrush which has been designed for improved ergonomics and for assisting the user in using a powered brush in an improved and gentler manner. The powered toothbrush includes a handle portion having a base member at one end thereof A neck portion extends from the other end of the handle portion with the head coupled to the neck portion. The head includes at least one bristle carrier connected to a drive shaft rotating the at least one bristle carrier in a first rotatable direction. In order to improve the ergonomics and stability of the powered toothbrush, the handle portion is formed asymmetrical about the longitudinal axis of the powered toothbrush and the base member of the handle portion is substantially flat. In this ergonomically-designed powered toothbrush, the width of the base member is less than the greatest width of the handle portion, the depth of the base member is less than the greatest depth of the handle portion, and the height dimension of the neck portion is greater than the height dimension of the handle portion.
