Abstract:
A machine is disclosed for covering articles (6) with sheets of plastic material (1). The machine comprises means (10, 21) suitable for cutting and sealing the sheets that cooperate with a work plane (2) and means (30, 50) suitable for arranging a roll (1) of a continuous sheet of plastic material in a suitable position for unrolling subsequent portions of the continuous sheet and the positioning thereof on the work plane (2).
Abstract:
Method and device for folding the parts of the surface film (9) of a book cover (8), which protrude from the cover, onto the cover and attaching them to the inner surface of the cover. For this purpose, a device formed of two rollers (2, 3) is used. A gap is formed between the rollers, which is smaller than the thickness of the cover (8) being dealt with. At least one roller (3) is loaded by a spring towards the other roller (2). The cover (8) being dealt with, to which a surface film (9) is glued, in such a way that its edges protrude outside the edges of the cover, is brought against the surface of the other roller at an essentially slanting position, and the edge of cover is turned, while continuing to press it against the roller, between the rollers for at least the distance of the film folded against the inner surface of the cover takin it into the ressure of the rollers.
Abstract:
A binder having molding thereon is provided. The binder may have two panels connected to one another by a hinge and a binding mechanism connected to one of the panels and designed to receive an article, such as one or more sheets of loose-leaf paper and other such articles. Molding may be located on the hinges to reinforce the hinge and may be less hard than the panel material. Molding may be located along the entire length of the hinge or in discrete sections spaced from one another along the hinge. Molding may also be located on edges of the cover panels, such as along the entire edge or at the corners between the edges. The material of the molding may be a different material than the material of the panels. To form the molding on or with the panels, techniques such as comolding or overmolding may be employed.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a publication including uniting a printed paper web with a printed film web to form a combined web, forming at least one signature sheet from the combined web, and folding the signature sheet to form a signature, wherein the signature comprises a plurality of pages of the publication with film material sandwiched there between.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and printing machine for producing a printed product with a number of volumes, in which the pages of the volumes are printed in the printing machine by imprinting printed pages onto a web. The web is folded in a folder belonging to the printing machine whereby forming at least one of the volumes of printed product. The printed product is laid out at an exit of the folder, and the web is folded in such a manner that a final format of each volume completely shows one of the printed pages. Before laying out the printed product at the exit of the folder, volumes belonging to the same printed product are collected in the folder by placing these volumes one atop the other.
Abstract:
Guide apparatus for forming and applying an over-wrap sheet to a book hardcover including a base unit having a width greater than the width of the hardcover and a length greater than the length of the hardcover, with the base unit including a hardcover receiving area and first and second orthogonal stops supported on the base unit for engaging first and second respective orthogonal edges of a cut over-wrap sheet. Third and fourth orthogonal stops are provided which are supported on the base unit for engaging first and second orthogonal edges of a hardcover placed on the hardcover receiving area. The third stop is substantially parallel to the first stop and disposed intermediate a center of the hardcover receiving area and the first stop and the fourth stop is substantially parallel to the second stop and disposed intermediate the center of the hardcover receiving area and the second stop, with the third and forth stops extending a distance away from the base unit less than a distance that the first and second stops extend away from the base unit so that the first and second stops do not interfere with placement of the over-wrap sheet over the hardcover and abutting the first and second stops. A reticule is included which is disposed on the base unit for aligning the base unit over an over-wrap sheet.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a binding set (3) for nonexperts for producing a bound album (1) and to the associated production method. The binding set (3) comprises a number of prepared covers (8), at least one spine card (16) and at least one separate adhesive means (21) with a transfer adhesive (23) provided in the form of a grid (26). The album pages (2) to be bound are each coated on the same edge (31) and on one or both sides with the transfer adhesive (23) and, afterwards, are placed one atop the other while forming a stack of pages and are adhered to one another on the edge. The spine card (16) with the exposed adhering surface (18) is then adhered around the back (30) and the adjoining edge areas (31) of the stack of pages (7). The covers (8) are subsequently adhered to the spine card (16) on both sides.
Abstract:
Apparatus for conditioning an edge of a stack of sheets to be bound so that sheets having coated surfaces and the like can be reliably bound. The apparatus includes a stack clamping mechanism configured to secure the stack of sheets and a piercing member configured to produce a piercing action substantially in a piercing plane. Also provided is a positioning mechanism configured to control relative movement of the stack clamping mechanism and the piercing mechanism so that the sheets of the stack pass through piercing plane, with the drive mechanism being configured to drive the piercing member into the edge of the stack at least once for each sheet of the stack passing through the piercing plane.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for binding a stack of sheets which can be carried out using a conventional perfect binding machine. A stack to be bound is positioned between a pair of end leafs. Molten hot melt adhesive is then applied to the edge of the stack and to the first and second end leafs, preferably using the perfect binding machine. An elongated spine member is then applied to the edge of the stack and is secured by the hot melt adhesive. The elongated spine member is preferably part of a configuration having a form factor that generally matches that of the conventional cover so that configuration, including the spine member, can be applied using the traditional perfect binder machine. The respective edges of the spine member are secured to the outer sheets of the end leafs by way of pressure sensitive adhesives. In one embodiment, the pressure sensitive adhesive is disposed on the edges of the spine member and covered by release sheets. After the spine structure has been secured by the hot melt adhesive, the user folds the edges of the spine structure away from the stack thereby revealing the release sheets. The release sheets are removed thereby exposing the pressure sensitive adhesive segments. The edges of the spine member are then pressed back against the stack causing the edges of the structure to be secured to the respective end leafs by the pressure sensitive adhesive. Preferably, a hardcover is secured using the end leafs and pressure sensitive adhesive.
