Abstract:
A process for reducing the mutagenicity of a polynuclear aromatic containing material. The process includes the step of contacting the polynuclear aromatic containing material having an initial mutagenicity index value in the presence of an alkylating agent with an acid catalyst under alkylation conditions sufficient to reduce the mutagenicity of the polynuclear aromatic containing material to a level less than the initial mutagenicity index value. Also provided is a process for reducing the mutagenicity of a hydrocarbonaceous refinery stream containing polynuclear aromatic compounds having three to seven rings. The process is particularly applicable to coaltar-based materials.
Abstract:
A fuel composition contains an antiwear additive comprising the reaction product of an aromatic triazole and a fatty acid having 10 to 40 carbon atoms and selected from oleic acid, stearic acid, tall oil acid and dimer acid.
Abstract:
A catalyst for producing higher flow index linear low density polyethylene with relatively narrower molecular weight distribution is described. The catalyst is formed by treating silica having reactive OH groups with a dialkylmagnesium in a solvent for said dialkylmagnesium; then adding to said solvent a carbonyl containing compound to form an intermediate which is subsequently treated with a transition metal to form a catalyst precursor. The catalyst precursor is activated with triethylaluminum.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic film structure comprising a base layer of a thermoplastic resin which comprises polypropylene and a coating layer of a polyvinylidene fluoride is disclosed. The film is characterized by reduced coefficient of friction, improved anti-blocking characteristics, and enhanced oxygen and water vapor barrier properties. The disclosure also provides a process for making the film in which the polypropylene-containing thermoplastic resin is extruded into a sheet, said sheet oriented in the longitudinal direction to form a monoaxially oriented film, said film coated with the polyvinylidene fluoride and said coated film oriented in the transverse direction.
Abstract:
A well completion process for improved cement placement in a horizontal wellbore (10) where a fluid is circulated down the wellbore (10) for conditioning and cleaning it. Afterwards, a production tube (12) containing centralizers (14) is positioned centrally within the wellbore (10). Next, a "spacer fluid" is circulated within an annulus (18) formed by the space between the tube (12) and the wellbore (10) so as to clean the annulus (18) out. Subsequently, a cement having a density greater than the spacer fluid is pumped into the annulus (18). Thereafter, a light weight cement is pumped into the annulus (18) thereby overriding the heavier cement and removing voids in the annulus (18) resulting in more efficient cement placement.
Abstract:
A delayed coking process comprising introducing a residuum hydrocarbon fraction to a coker heater (15a) and adding spent caustic through lead line (40) directly to the heated coker feed in the coke drum (16).
Abstract:
A product capable of absorbing unwanted odors and unpleasant flavors, is sealed from said odors and flavors by being sealingly overwrapped with a film comprising an oriented film of a blend of polypropylene and a polymerized polyterpene selected from the group consisting of polymerized d-limonene, polymerized beta-pinene, polymerized synthetic approximation of d-limonene and beta-pinene and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
A method for the inhibition of scale deposition on the surfaces of a well coproducing oil and scale forming brines comprising injecting into the well reservoir an acidic aqueous solution at a first pH containing dissolved therein a scale inhibitor, multivalent metal ions, and a heat-sensitive pH-increasing substance containing no more than 10 carbon atoms, which decomposes at elevated temperatures liberating an alkaline compound such that the solution is inherently heated by the higher ambient reservoir temperature to a temperature at which the alkaline compound is liberated from the heat-sensitive substance thus raising the pH of the solution to a point at which a sparingly soluble multivalent metal salt of the scale inhibitor is phase separated from the solution on the porous surfaces of the reservoir rock formation, providing for a slow release of inhibitor into the produced brines when the well is in its production phase.
Abstract:
Alkoxy borates of alkylated phenols have been found to be effective cleanliness agents for lubricants and additives for improving the dropping point of greases.
Abstract:
A method is provided for reducing NOx for high flow applications such as NOx abatement in an exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine operating under lean burn conditions wherein NOx is reduced by hydrocarbon reductants. The method employs a hydrothermally stable catalyst comprising transition metal-containing ZSM-5 which is prepared by in-situ crystallization of an aggregate comprising ZSM-5 seeds, silica, and a crystalline silicate.
