Abstract:
A high density polyethylene (HDPE) film is provided having high biaxial orientation. The film includes HDPE having a density of at least 0.940, and a melt index of from 0.5 to 10. The film is stretched in the machine (longitudinal) direction to a degree of from 5:1 to 8:1, preferably from 6:1 to 7:1. The film is also stretched in the transverse (lateral) direction to a degree of from 6:1 to 15:1, preferably from 9:1 to 13:1. Preferably, the film has an orientation imbalance, with a higher degree of transverse orientation than machine orientation. Skin layers such as heat seal layers can be provided. Preferably, the film contains one or more layers of a casting promoter material employed to promote casting of a high gauge HDPE sheet subsequently high biaxially oriented to provide the film. The film can also be cavitated, or otherwise modified (e.g., corona-treated, coated, metallized, etc.) to provide films suitable for special applications. The film of the invention has superior properties, including lower water vapor transmission rate, better dead-fold, higher tensile strength, and consistent gauge profile. Also provided is a method for making the biaxially oriented film.

Abstract:
M41S materials are synthesized from an aqueous reaction mixture comprising sources of an oxide of a tetravalent element Y, hydroxyl ions and an organic surfactant R', wherein R' comprises an ion of the formula R1R2R3R4Q , wherein Q is nitrogen or phosphorus and wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is aryl or alkyl of from 6 to about 36 carbon atoms or combinations thereof, the remainder of R1, R2, R3 and R4 being selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms and combinations thereof, and wherein the OH/surfactant molar ratio is in the approximate range 0.9-1.2, more preferably 1.0-1.15. By controlling the surfactant level within the above ranges it is found that high quality M41S materials with excellent adsorption properties can be produced at surfactant utilization levels.

Abstract:
An opaque, oriented polymeric film structure (10) is described. The film structure has a plurality of voids (12), at least some of the voids not containing a void-initiating particle (14) and at least some of the voids being interconnected with an adjacent void in the polymeric matrix material, the number of voids being sufficient to impart a significant degree of opacity in the film structure.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a catalyst component which is a contact product of reagents comprising: silica which has a pore volume which exceeds 2.9 cc/gram and an average pore diameter which exceed 400 Angstroms; a metallocene of a first transition metal, activated by an alumoxane; a contact product of dialkylmagnesium and trialkylsilanol; a second transition metal source which exhibits a hydrogen response which is different from that of the metallocene; and an olefin of 4 to 20 carbon atoms. This catalyst component is activated by an aluminum alkyl activator.
Abstract:
A highly active polyolefin catalyst can be prepared by reacting a reactive surface of a porous organic or inorganic support with a solution of metallocene compound dissolved in methylaluminoxane. One aspect of the invention is in a carrier which exhibits a silanol group concentration of greater than 0.7 mmole/gram. The catalyst is in particulate form with a particle size which exceeds 10 microns.
Abstract:
The instant invention relates to a fluid catalytic isoparaffin-olefin alkylation process in which a circulating fluidized-bed reactor is employed and the catalyst is continuously regenerated. A solid catalyst which comprises a large pore zeolite contacts the feed in the riser of the reactor. Both the feed and the catalysts are maintained in vapor phase. Following recovery from the product, at least a portion of the catalyst is recycled to the reactor following steam stripping and gas purging. The remainder is passed to the regenerator for the removal of coke, then is recycled to the riser. C5+ alkylate product and isobutane are separated from the hydrocarbon effluent. Isobutane is recycled to the riser.
Abstract:
Blown films of linear low density polyethylene are produced by a high stalk process comprising extruding the linear low density polyethylene through an annular die to form an extruded tube of molten material, cooling the extruded tube while drawing the tube so cooled, to maintain the tube diameter identical to that of the annular die and expanding the tube or bubble to attenuate the walls thereof by introducing a gas to the interior of the tube or bubble. The resulting films are characterized by superior impact strength and MD tear resistance.
