A communication path allocating entity and method are described. The entity (10) comprises a receiver (11) for receiving session requests for requesting one or both of an establishment of a new communication session and a change in existing communication session between a network and one or more terminals (20), and a processor (12) for processing the session requests and for allocating one or more communication paths (21, 23, 25) to each of the communication sessions. A session database (28) is provided for keeping record of the allocated communication path and their associated sessions.

The invention relates to a method and devices for supporting the use of a dual mode mobile station in a cellular telecommunications network connected to a first cellular telecommunications access network and a second short range and/or high bandwidth access network. The node connecting the second access network and the core network imitates a node of the cellular telecommunications access network towards a core network and operates towards the second access network like a SIP proxy.

The invention is related to a method for transmitting data in a telecommunications network and a device, e.g. a network node, utilising that method, where said data transfer requires the application of algorithms for coding and/or decoding ("codec") on said data, where at least one of said network nodes provides a list (25) of available codecs and transmits it to a further network node, where said further network node chooses from the received list (25) and from a corresponding set of codecs available to the further network node a combination of codecs to be used when transferring said data, and where the received list (25) not only comprises direct codecs (28) but transcoding codecs (29), i.e. codecs requiring transcoding, as well.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for operating a switching node of a communications network, wherein the communications network comprises a layered architectural environment and a non-layered architectural environment. The switching node provides processing capabilities for the processing of communications services both within the layered and the non-layered architectural environment. The method comprises the steps of receiving a communication service request, determining according to at least one predetermined rule as an operation mode, whether the switching node is going to act for a processing of the requested communication service as a switching node of the layered architectural environment or as a switching node of the non-layered architectural environment, and processing the requested communications service in accordance with the determined operation mode of the switching node. The invention relates further to a corresponding network node, communications system and computer program.
