摘要: Semiconductor lasers, in which the laser diode output is used directly for medical treatment, can be compact, lightweight and efficient. Lasers operating in the relatively "eye-safe" window of about 1350 - 1600 nm can be used to treat wounds and diseases of the skin and other organs, for example to cut, ablate or coagulate bodily tissues and fluids. Because the wavelength is eye-safe, the treatment can be through-space, and does not require the use of a fiber optic containment system. The device need not directly contact tissue. Such devices can be battery operated, are portable and self-contained, and thus are suitable for uses that are not confined to medical facilities, including use in emergency situations and in military operations.

摘要: Exemplary embodiments of system and apparatus can be provided for treating various dermatological and biological conditions using electromagnetic energy in the form of optical radiation. For example, energy can be provided by a chemical reaction, such as by combustion of a fine metallic filament, which can be used to generate a high-intensity pulse of energy without requiring external energy sources. Various parameters of the reactive materials and enclosures can be selected and/or applied to provide a radiation pulse having particular characteristics, including fluence, peak intensity, and radiation wavelength distribution. Various filters may be provided to further modify characteristics of the radiation. Such radiation pulses can be used to irradiate tissue such as skin to obtain various therapeutic or beneficial effects, including improvement in the appearance of pigmented or venous lesions.

摘要: Presented is an applicator and a method for hair removal. The applicator includes one or more illumination sources and at least one hair removal mechanism. The hair may be removed by mechanical means or by application of RF. The hair removal mechanism may be an exchangeable mechanism and includes such mechanisms as a rotary based tweezing epilator, spring type epilator, razor, or electric shaver. The illumination sources are xenon lamp, LEDs and a mix of them. The hair is removed by translating in a scanning motion the applicator having a hair removal mechanism over a target section of the skin and treating the section of the skin from which the hair was removed by a suitable illumination.

摘要: An apparatus and a method for stretching a biaxially or radially deformable, resilient, flat or curved surface, comprising a radiation supplying means, such as intense pulsed light (IPL) or laser radiation, having an end portion through which said radiation is supplied to a radiation receiving part of said surface, and a handpiece comprising at its tip at least one anchoring means to be applied to said surface, said anchoring means being positioned laterally to said end portion and being operable to move in the direction of at least one of the axes of said biaxially or radially deformable, flat or curved surface and away from said radiation receiving part of said surface. In operation, said movement of the anchoring means away from said radiation receiving part of said surface can be achieved by pressing said anchoring means against said surface. By tensioning the surface at the periphery of the radiation receiving part, the end of the optical element at the end portion of the radiation supplying means does not contact the radiation receiving surface and leaves enough space for the supply of cooling air.

摘要: A method and apparatus for performing a laser treatment of a patient includes applying a positive pressure impulse on a predetermined target site on the patient with sufficient positive pressure arising from the momentum flux of sprayed material incident on the target site to momentarily lessen pain sensation during irradiation during or proximate in time to irradiation of the target site. The predetermined target site is cooled by applying a predetermined amount of coolant or cryogen onto the target site. The target site is radiated with energy to produce heat in tissue at the target site while leaving a superficial part of the target site substantially undamaged due to dynamic cooling of the superficial part of the target site by the coolant. Mediation of the pain sensation arising from the radiation is at least partially masked or lessened by the positive pressure impulse and/or by the temperature of the coolant.
