Abstract: A smart mattress and adaptive actuation systems for a flexible fabric are disclosed. The mattress can include a flexible fabric associated with a sleeping surface configured to engage a user arranged in a lying position. An actuation assembly can be configured to manipulate the sleeping surface. In one example, the actuation assembly includes a flexible bladder containing a fluid, and a pair of electrodes at least partially separated by the flexible bladder. The pair of electrodes can be configured to manipulate the fluid for changing a shape of the flexible bladder, and the sleeping surface can be responsive to the shape of the flexible bladder. The actuation assembly can also include an array of shapeable materials that change shape upon the receipt of heat. The sleeping surface can be responsive to the shape of the shapeable materials.

Abstract: There is provided a reinforcement material for a garment, the garment having at least one region exposed to external mechanical forces. The reinforcement material includes a piece of fabric, the piece of fabric including a plurality of micrometric pores distributed among a surface of the piece of fabric. The micrometric pores are sized, positioned and oriented to allow a passage of at least one of: heat, moisture, vapors and water therethrough. The piece of fabric has abrasion resistance properties and breathability properties and is configured to be affixed to the garment in the region(s) exposed to the external mechanical forces, thereby enhancing the mechanical resistance of the garment without significantly affecting breathability properties of the garment, when the piece of fabric is affixed to the garment.

Abstract: A patient garment for post-surgical and other medical-related procedures is provided. The garment can include a main body with a front portion, rear portion, upper collar end, lower waist end and arm openings that are collectively configured to fit around a patient's upper body portion. The front portion can include first and second side sections, each having a longitudinal edge that form a separable front seam for opening and closing the front portion of the garment. The garment can include as many as twelve or more pockets located on the interior and exterior surfaces of the garment. The pockets can be located intermediately along the height of the front portion of the garment. At least one of the pockets located along the collar end of the garment is configured for receiving a drainage reservoir connected to a patient's cranial or neck drainage site. At least one surface of the garment, such as the interior of the garment, is fabricated from a material that has been chemically treated to reduce surface friction and irritation against the skin of a wearer. The chemical treatment of the fabric may comprise of dimethicone.
