Abstract:
A network integration system/method allowing computer network functionality in a coordinated/concerted fashion in network configurations that are local to and/or spanning network gateway routers is disclosed. The system utilizes a Smart Gateway Power Controller (SGPC) to interact within a home automation network (HAN) to permit the local HAN to operate as a distinct network but still permit access to/from remote networks such as the Internet. The system permits inter-networking of HAN devices (including SGPCs) and device interaction as a group with consumers within a man-machine "social network, " where information is pushed/pulled just as with a conventional social network. The system/method allows HAN device setup/action/monitoring wherein HAN devices host a number of user interfaces supported locally and externally to web interfaces/networks, these interfaces supporting local/remote access devices including mobile phones, tablet computers, laptops, desktop computers, and the like.
Abstract:
This invention relates to assignment of mobile clients (such as mobile telephones or software agents) to mainly stationary servers (such as mobile network base stations or computer servers) with the objective of reducing or minimizing the number of active servers. Once the number of users of a server drops below a specified level, the server may be deactivated resulting in power and efficiency savings. Preferably the method of the invention operates dynamically and during run time. In certain embodiments, the method can accept trade-offs in the quality of service or the number of active servers. In an embodiment of the invention, servers are arranged to "compete" with adjacent servers for their clients. This competition may be in a self-amplifying manner such that with the effect that more "popular" servers are more likely to succeed thus resulting in servers which are below a utilization threshold and can therefore be switched off.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method in which a personal network element (PNE) forming a PN requests a converged personal network service (CPNS) to set up a new personal network (PN) on the basis of PN usage information. The method is performed by the PNE and includes: transmitting, to a PN gateway (PN GW), a message requesting the generation of PN usage information on a currently set PN; and receiving a generation response message including the result of generating the PN usage information corresponding to the generation request message. The PN usage information is generated by the CPNS server on the basis of the generation request message and is stored in a PN usage information list of the CPSN. The PN usage information includes a PN usage information index, a PN alias, an expiry, a PN identifier (ID), a PN GW ID, and a PNE ID. The method further includes: transmitting, to the PNGW, a message requesting the setting of a PN using PN usage information corresponding to a new PN, in order to set the new PN and not the currently set PN; and receiving, from the PN GW, a message responding to setting the PN including a response to the PN setting request message, wherein a PN inventory of the CPNS server may be updated by the CPNS on the basis of selected PN usage information.
