Abstract:
For container-carried explosives or contraband, stimulated emissions due to nuclear quadropole resonance are detected utilizing a terminated balanced transmission line and a directional coupler for the detection of explosives, contraband, narcotics and the like that exist in metal containers.
Abstract:
A system and method for communication that could be used in an interrogate friend or foe system. The method comprises generating a first message by a processor and controlling a beam steerer to transmit waves polarized in a first polarization-direction toward a first spatial angle. The method further comprises transmitting the first message through an antenna in communication with the beam steerer toward the first spatial angle. The method further comprises receiving the first message at a target through a second antenna and generating a second message responsive to the first message by a second processor in communication with the second antenna. The method further comprises transmitting the second message in a responsive wave through the second antenna, the responsive wave polarized in a second polarization-direction distinct from the first polarization-direction; and receiving the responsive wave at the first antenna through the beam steerer.
Abstract:
Techniques are disclosed that allow for programmable attenuation using thermometer code steps. By thermometer coding the attenuator structure, monotonicity is guaranteed or otherwise greatly improved, which eliminates instability problems with automatic gain control loops and without the need for compensation or trimming. In addition, the thermometer coding technique also greatly reduces phase discontinuity between adjacent gain states.
Abstract:
GPS reception on helicopters and ground vehicles may be subject to varying near- gioimd interference. A compact antenna includes vertically spaced arrays of radiating elements. The first array provides a basic reception pattern. The second array provides a pattern having a distinctive low elevation angle phase reversal, By combining signals for these patterns an antenna pattern with a low angle omnidirectional elevation null characteristic is provided to suppress near-ground interference. Prior to combining, signals from the second array may be modiiϊed in amplitude or phase, or both, on a semi- permanent basis, or may be adaptively modified on an active basis, in order to adjust the null characteristic. Antennas and methods are described.
Abstract:
An apparatus for optical spectrometry utilizes a simplified construction, reducing the number of independent optical elements needed while providing a sizeable dispersed spectrum. The apparatus provides a spectral intensity distribution of an input source wherein individual spectral components in the source can be measured and, in some embodiments, can be manipulated or filtered.
Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for the transmission of data between an optical bus and an electronic component at a speed independent from a clock speed of the electrical component; the system comprising an optical data storage component communicating with both the optical bus and the electrical component; the optical data storage component being configured to hold data transmitted on the optical bus until said electrical component is available.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is provided for the testing of an optical bus, that method comprising; loading transmission test data and address information for at ieast one receiving cell via an electronic bus in a first register; setting a clock rate for the optical bus; employing the optical bus to transmit the test data from the first register to the at least one receiving cell; reading out received test data from the receiving cell via the electronic bus; correlating the received test data from the first register with the transmission test data; analyzing errors in the received data and handling of the received data by the bus.
Abstract:
A single event upset (SEU) hardened memory cell to be utilized in static random access memories is disclosed. The SEU hardened memory cell includes a first inverter and a second inventer connected to each other in a cross-coupled manner. The SEU hardened memory cell also includes a first resistor, a second resistor and a capacitor. The first resistor is connected between an input of the first inverter and an output of the second inverter. The second resistor is connected between an input of the second inverter and an output of the first inverter. The capacitor is connected between an input of the first inverter and an input of the second inverter.
Abstract:
A navigation signal generator on a framework that provides a standardized object-oriented means for developing and managing signal processing functions. The framework provides the ability to dynamically reallocate functions allowing numerous communications, signals intelligence, and information warfare missions that may be required under a single platform and co-exist with other frameworks. In one embodiment the system is a software defined navigation augmentation using the software defined radio architecture.
Abstract:
A coaxial antenna is implemented that combines a VHF and UHF antenna on a common radiating element. The antenna may further include a satellite antenna that, together with the VHF/UHF antenna fits into a whip antenna footprint.
