A multi-well microtiter plate is provided designed for high-throughput screening of piercing- sucking arthropods, such as insects exposed to various compounds. The microtiter plates comprise a base comprising a plurality of sample wells, a covering made from pierceable material, a housing unit comprising a plurality of housing wells providing a predetermined fit in the plurality of sample wells, and an air-penetrable seal. Methods for containing, screening, and/or imaging piercing-sucking pests andarthropods utilizing the multi- chambered microtiter plates are also provided.

Signal sequences useful for targeting proteins and peptides to the surface of endospores produced by Paenibacillus family members and methods of using the same are provided. The display of heterologous molecules, such as peptides, polypeptides and other recombinant constructs, on the spore surface of Paenibacillus family members, using particular N-terminal targeting sequences and derivatives of the same, and likewise are provided.

In the present invention, HPPD polypeptides and plants containing them showing a full tolerance against one or more HPPD inhibitor herbicides belonging to various chemical classes are described. A set of mutant HPPD polypeptides have been designed which have either no or only a significantly reduced affinity to HPPD inhibitor herbicides and, at the same time, the rate of dissociation of the HPPD inhibitors of the mutant HPPD polypeptide is increased to such an extent that the HPPD inhibitors no longer act as slow-binding or slow, tight-binding inhibitors but, instead of this, have become fully reversible inhibitors. In particular, isolated polynucleotides encoding mutant HPPD polypeptides conferring tolerance to HPPD inhibitor herbicides belonging to various chemical classes are provided. Additionally, amino acid sequences corresponding to the polynucleotides are encompassed.

The present invention also encompasses the use of a composition comprising at least one biological control agent selected from Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, and metabolites produced therefrom for controlling Ceratocystis spp. in a plant.
