Abstract: Method and apparatus for preparing a seating surface of prescribed depth, contour configuration and area delineated by a prescribed peripheral boundary extending along the bone of a natural joint at which a prosthetic device is to be implanted includes positioning a guide on the bone, the guide having a guide slot following a path geometrically similar to the peripheral boundary of the seating surface, inserting a cutting device altitudinally through the guide slot at any selected location along the path of the guide slot, and translating the cutting device along the guide slot to cut an outline groove in the bone coincident with the peripheral boundary of the seating surface. The guide them is removed from the bone, and portions of the bone lying within the area delineated by the outline groove are removed to establish the seating surface.

Abstract: A surgical instrument for use in distraction of vertebral discs is provided that has a handle end nad a tip end, and a pair of elongated members each having grips at the handle end and jaws at the tip end. The members are pivotally connected together. The instrument has a biasing mechanism that serves to urge the jaws toward each other and also includes a ratcheting mechanism that allows the jaws to be held apart at predetermined distances. Preferably, the handle end of the instrument is offset from the tip end and the jaws may be offset from the tip end.

Abstract: Techniques and systems are described for mixed reality (MR) guidance of an ultrasound probe. A system may obtain reference data depicting a bone of a patient; determine a physical location of an ultrasound probe; generate, based on first ultrasound data generated by the ultrasound probe, registration data that registers virtual locations on the bone of the patient as depicted in the reference data with corresponding physical locations on the bone of the patient; generate virtual guidance based on the reference data, the registration data, and the physical location of the ultrasound probe, wherein the virtual guidance provides guidance to a clinician regarding how the ultrasound probe is positioned relative to a target position at which the ultrasound probe is able to generate second, ultrasound data that provides information regarding a soft tissue structure of the patient; and cause a MR visualization device to output the virtual guidance to the clinician.
