Abstract:
The present invention relates to skin cleansing bar composition in which polyalkylene glycols of very specific molecular weights are used to define compositions which are mild, foam well and provide consumer-desired sensory profiles. A significant amount of these specific PEGs must be incorporated into the bar to deliver these desired effects. To properly process such a bar composition, the cast-melt method is the preferred technique.

Abstract:
We have found that long standing problems relating to the stability of organic materials in alkaline detergents, including the reversion or hydrolysis of condensed phosphate sequestrants in alkaline solid detergent compositions can be alleviated by the use of an organic composition having vicinal hydroxyls. Such a solid block detergent can be manufactured by a process in which a source of alkalinity, a functional material including a condensed phosphate sequestering agent, an organic compound having two vicinal hydroxyl groups, are combined in a pourable composition or liquid. Such a liquid can be introduced into a plastic capsule and solidified. During manufacture and solidification, we have found that the vicinal hydroxyl compound prevents substantial hydrolysis or reversion of the condensed phosphate maintaining effective hardness ion sequestration during the use of the detergent. The stabilizer can also stabilize color, chlorine content and dispensing properties.
Abstract:
A process for forming detergent bars comprising applying pressure to a detergent composition contained within a mould cavity. The detergent composition in the mould is in a substantially fluid or semi-solid state and the mould is substantially full before the pressure is applied.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a highly alkaline or mildly alkaline detergent composition having enhanced cleaning properties. The detergent combines a source of alkalinity and a blend of nonionic alkoxylated surfactant and nonionic alkoxylated silicone surfactant that enhances cleaning waxy-fatty soils. The composition may be in the form of solid block.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to cast melt bar compositions comprising surfactant, fatty acid, generally lower MW polyalkylene glycol and small amounts of water wherein the ratio of total polyol to water is at least 3:1. By using less water and greater variants of polyol, the bars allow larger amounts of generally insoluble materials to be used and also allow retention of bar integrity using limited amounts of soap (important for mildness).
Abstract:
A solid cast warewashing composition having improved soil removing properties is produced for use in automatic washing machines. A liquid detergent composition is cast and solidified in a mold. The solid cast detergent, surrounded on all but its upper surface by the mold, is used in automatic washing machines having a dispensing device designed to dispense a liquid aqueous detergent formed from the solid cast detergent using an impinging liquid spray. The liquid aqueous detergent flows out of the dispensing device generally simultaneously with its formation in the dispenser. The cast detergent composition includes at least about 0.1 wt.% of a selected nonionic surfactant, an alkali metal hydroxide, a sequestrant, water of hydration and optionally further an available chlorine source, a defoamer, or the like.
Abstract:
The invention provides a process for preparing a homogeneous, solid cleaning composition that comprises a cleaning agent, and optionally an additive agent and a hardening agent. The compositions are processed in a continuous mixing system at high shear, at or below the melting temperature of the ingredients. Preferably, the ingredients are processed in an extruder, and the mixture is extruded directly into a mold or other packaging system for dispensing the cleaning composition. The consistency of the composition ranges from that of a fused block solid to a malleable article. The cleaning compositions are useful for warewashing and cleaning hard surfaces, rinsing, sanitizing, deodorizing, laundry detergents, conveyor lubricants, and the like.
Abstract:
The invention provides a process for preparing a homogeneous, urea-based, solid cleaning composition, without the application of heat from an external source to melt the urea. Cleaning compositions for use in warewashing and cleaning hard surfaces, rinsing, sanitizing, deodorizing, and the like, made by the method are also provided. Preferably, the ingredients are processed in an extruder, and the mixture is extruded directly into a mold or other packaging system for dispensing the detergent. The consistency of the composition ranges from that of a fused solid block to a malleable article.
Abstract:
A mould (100) comprising a plurality of cavities (111) for receiving a flowable material and at least one reservoir (112) for receiving the flowable material, wherein the cavities (111) are arranged in communication with at the least one reservoir (112) such that the flowable material can flow from the at least one reservoir (112) into the cavities. A mould part (110), a moulded product (160) and a method of producing a plurality of moulded products (160) is also described.
