Abstract:
The present invention provides nucleic acid sequences encoding novel human hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitors (HGF-AIh). These novel nucleic acids are useful for constructing the claimed DNA vectors and host cells of the invention and for preparing the claimed recombinant proteins and antibodies.
Abstract:
The cystatin superfamily are inhibitors of cysteine proteinases, which function in a protective role with regard to various pathological actions of endogenous proteinases. Zcys5 is a new member of this superfamily.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to cystatin T (also known as zcys3) polypeptides and polynucleotides encoding the same. Cystatin T polypeptide is testis specific and homologous to cystatin-related epididymal specific gene (CRES) and type 2 cystatins. The polypeptides would be useful for modulating spermatogenesis and may be used to study or modulate that function in in vitro or in vivo systems. The present invention also includes antibodies to the cystatin T polypeptides.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a new means for the treatment of focal ischemic cerebral infarction (ischemic stroke). It has been found that reduction of alpha 2-antiplasmin leads to a significantly smaller focal cerebral infarct size. The invention therefore provides the use of compounds that reduce alpha 2-antiplasmin concentration or activity in vivo, for the preparation of a therapeutical composition for the treatment of focal cerebral ischemic infarction (ischemic stroke).
Abstract:
Proteinase inhibitors comprising a Kunitz domain are disclosed. The Kunitz domain comprises a sequence of amino acid residues as shown in SEQ ID NO:3, wherein the sequence is at least 80 % identical to residues 6 through 56 of SEQ ID NO:2. Also disclosed are methods for making the proteinase inhibitors, and expression vectors and cultured cells that are useful within the methods. The proteinase inhibitors may be used as components of cell culture media, in protein purification, and in certain therapeutic and diagnostic applications.

Abstract:
The invention provides human protease associated proteins (HPRAP) and polynucleotides which identify and encode HPRAP. The invention also provides expression vectors, host cells, antibodies, agonists, and antagonists. The invention also provides methods for diagnosing, treating or preventing disorders associated with expression of HPRAP.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to monoclonal antibodies which specifically bind to a Limulus alpha 2-macroglobulin. Preferred monoclonal antibodies inhibit the enzymatic activation of a Limulus amebocyte lysate to form a gel or to cleave a chromogenic substrate in the presence of an endotoxin but not in the presence of a glucan. The monoclonal antibodies can be used, inter alia, to purify a Limulus alpha 2-macroglobulin, and the preferred antibodies can be used in a method for specifically detecting a glucan in a test sample using an amebocyte lysate.

Abstract:
Novel human nuclear hormone receptor polynucleotides and polypeptides, and related compositions and methods are disclosed. The polypeptides and polynucleotides have nuclear hormone receptor characteristics and homology to other mammalian nuclear hormone receptors. The receptor polypeptides may be used within methods to detect the natural human ligand and ligand analogs. The receptor polypeptides can also be used within methods to influence biological functions and maintenance of homeostasis.
