Abstract:
An apparatus in the form of an adapter for forming a connection comprising a first part adapted for coupling with a second part by a quick-release coupling formed by a first projection of the first part having an at least partial dovetail shape and a recess of the second part having an at least partial dovetail shape. An opening in the recess is adapted for receiving the projection in an axial direction. In other embodiments, the adapter is: (1) frictionally enhanced for engaging an internal portion of the drilling element; (2) includes a radial projection elongated in an axial direction for engaging the internal portion of the one drilling element; and/or (3) has a cutter for scoring an internal portion of the one drilling element upon being inserted therein and rotated. An adapter is also disclosed for use with a drill chuck, including for creating a "twist lock" connection.
Abstract:
A grip for sporting equipment is provided having at least one grip end, a grip end portion extending from each of the at least one grip ends, and a center portion adapted to receive the gripping end of the equipment. Each grip end portion defines a receiver for receiving one or more layers substantially overlaying the center portion. Typically, the grip end portions are fabricated of durable material for protecting the grip ends from damage. The receivers reduce adhesive leakage from between the center portion and the layers and from between the layers. The receivers also protect opposed ends of the layers from damage. The layers may be fabricated of lightweight materials. The thickness of layers formed of lightweight materials may be increased without greatly increasing the grip's weight, thereby increasing the grip's size without greatly increasing its weight.
Abstract:
An apparatus detects a leak of an electrically conductive fluid from a disposable plastic bag used in mixing applications, such as during bioprocessing in a sterile environment. In one embodiment, the bag is associated with a sensor for detecting a leak from an interior compartment. The sensor may be arranged to detect either a leak internal to the at least two material layers of the bag or external to the outer layer, or both. Related methods are also disclosed.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a cosmetic device and related methods of manufacturing and using a cosmetic device. The device may comprise a porous part formed using a soluble filler and a non-porous part molded to the porous part.
Abstract:
In one aspect, a disposable centrifuge includes a container including an interior compartment for receiving the liquid and solids. The container is capable of rotating to urge the solids toward the periphery of the interior compartment. A fixed extraction conduit may be provided for extracting at least a portion of the solids from adjacent the periphery of the interior compartment of the container. A motive device may also be provided for forming a non-contact coupling with the container, which may rotate and/or levitate the container. A relatively low, continuous flow rate (about 250 ml/min to about 500 ml/min) may also be utilized. Related methods are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A component subjected to wear during use includes a powder coating formed of a polymer selected from the group consisting of a polyamide, polyolefin, polyester, urethane, epoxy, acrylic, and mixtures thereof to provide improved wear resistance, enhanced cleanability, and reduced surface friction. Preferably, the component is for use in conveying product, such as in a conveyor system, and includes: (1) a metal core and a nylon powder coating; or (2) a stainless steel core and a powder coating. Most preferably, the coating is generally clear or translucent so as to give the appearance that the underlying component, which is typically made of metal, is neither coated nor made entirely of a polymer.
Abstract:
An apparatus for securing items to a pack for ready and convenient access is provided. The apparatus includes a load rail for use in connection with a pack, such as a backpack. The load rail comprises an elongated body formed of a dimensionally stable material having first and second end portions. The end portions may take the form of depending feet for attaching to the pack via fasteners. A plurality of load rails may be provided along one side of the pack, such as opposite the side including one or more straps for being worn by a user, and may associate with a connector for connecting gear to the pack via the load rails. When mounted, an intermediate portion of the or each load rail may be raised above and spaced from a surface of the pack to facilitate receipt of a portion of the connector.
Abstract:
An apparatus for receiving a fluid is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an at least partially flexible vessel. The vessel includes a top wall and a plurality of sidewalls, a first of said sidewalls having a first length in a first plane that is greater than a second length of the second, generally orthogonal sidewall in the first plane, and a bottom wall depending from the at least two sidewalls. The vessel may have a generally rectangular cross section, and may include a depending portion. The vessel may be at least partially rigid. Related methods are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An apparatus for use in connection using a drill having a drilling element for forming a borehole in a face of a mine passage includes a drill guide for engaging the drilling element while permitting the drilling element to move toward the face for forming the borehole. The drill guide includes a keeper for keeping the drilling element in a desired position, which keeper is biased for pivoting movement upon the application of a manual force between an active position for capturing the drilling element and a retracted position for releasing the drilling element. A low profile drill guide is also disclosed, as is a guard for a drill guide, and also related methods.
Abstract:
In a valveless percussive drill of the hydraulic type and incorporating a hammer assembly, an "intermediate" shoulder between the head portion and cushion portion of a reciprocating piston engages the end face of a distributor or liner, rather than an interior bearing structure for the piston. This end face can be made harder than the ulterior bearing structure, which may include a surface made of a different material than the piston. Collectively, the result is a percussive drill with the hammer assembly incorporating the piston substantially less susceptible to failure due to galling as the result of contamination in the working fluid.
