Abstract: A node device for effecting crossconnect in an STM transmission system and a maintenance/operation support apparatus cooperating with the node device. A desired transmission section and a link are efficiently released. The node device comprises control means for individually selecting a link used to set up a path between the communication device of the station and the communication device of another station and crossconnect means for setting up a path through the selected link. When the identifiers of all the paths substituted by substitute paths are given, the control means selects an auxiliary link on the basis of the system configuration.
