    Abstract: Device for release of a substance from a solid preparation thereof to a flowing liquid during simultaneous parenteral administration of the liquid to a patient, which device comprises a connector (1) connectable into a system for parenteral administration of the liquid, and having an inlet (6) and an outlet (12) for the liquid and means for liquid communication of said inlet and outlet with a valve device (4, 5) which comprises a mobile valve core (5) having a bypass position providing for direct liquid flow from the inlet to the outlet of the connector and a working position providing for liquid flow from the inlet (6) of the connector into a releasable container (15) for the solid preparation. The device is characterized in that the valve core (5) has an outlet means (13A) and a separate inlet means (19A) simultaneously connectable to an inlet means (14) and a separate outlet means (18) respectively on the releasable container, the releasable container further having therein means (16) for conducting the liquid from the inlet thereof to a space where it will contact the solid preparation (17), and further to the outlet of the releasable container (18), and via the valve core in a flow path to the outlet (12) of the connector.

    Abstract: A fluid flow control valve which is responsive to the pressure drop occurring across the valve in order to maintain a substantially constant volume of fluid flow regardless of the pressures appearing at the upstream and downstream sides of the valve has a valve casing (2) with an inner face (2C) that widens outwardly from a fluid inflow end to a fluid outflow end, and a valve member (3) which is convex towards the fluid inflow end of the casing and is axially movable relatively to the casing (2) in order to vary the annular gap between the valve member (3) and the valve casing (2C). Means (25, 26) for sensing the fluid pressures at points spaced from the valve member (3) on the upstream and downstream sides thereof are coupled to a fluid pressure actuating mechanism (32, 33, 4) for acting directly upon the axially movable valve member in order to vary the axial position of the valve member (3) in accordance with the pressure drop across the valve. The valve is biased towards its open position by a biasing means (51, 52) presenting a force proportional to the closing movement of the valve member, and the shape of the inner face (2C) of the valve casing is so profiled that the coefficient of resistance presented by the valve is directly proportional to the linear closing movement of the valve member (3). This enables direct adjustment of the valve member in response to the sensed pressure drop, without the requirement for any intermediate control mechanism to compensate for the characteristics of the valve.

    Abstract: A throttled fluid mixing device comprises a valve having an axially extending valve casing (2) containing a disc-shaped valve member (3) located axially within said casing and arranged for axial movement relatively to a flared inner wall portion (2C) of said casing which is arranged to widen continuously in a direction away from its upstream end. Axial movement of the valve member (3) serves to throttle the flow of fluid through said casing, and the valve member (3) has, on its downstream side, one or more orifices (3C) from which a second fluid can be introduced into the valve casing (2) immediately on the downstream side of the valve member (3), whereby turbulent flow immediately downstream of the valve member (3) is effective to cause mixing of the two fluids. Preferably, the disc-shaped valve member has a domed or radiused frontal face, and, on its rear face, an annular recess (3A) located adjacent the rim of the disc and coupled to the orifice or orifices (3C).

    Abstract: The invention provides a device for mixing a pharmaceutical from a solid supply into a parenterally acceptable liquid flowing through a set for parenteral administration of the liquid to a patient, said device comprising a first compartment defining a mixing space through which the liquid flows in a defined flow direction and in which the liquid mixes with the pharmaceutical in liquid solution.
