Abstract: The invention relates to method for producing track-etched membranes, membrane cards, membrane stacks, separating elements, devices and plants, to the use thereof for separating particles from liquid and gas media and to methods for determining a maximum diameter of the membrane pores. The inventive method for producing a track-etched membrane consists in exposing a polymer film to a heavy ion attack for forming a determined track density therein, in etching pores in the thus obtainable film by an etching solution for ensuring a pose density corresponding to the track density and in laminating the thus obtainable porous track-etched membrane on a porous substrate by using an adhesive material for producing a membrane card. Membrane stacks and a turbuliser are helically wound about a collector tube for collecting a treated liquid (gas) medium in such a way that a separating device is formed. Said separating device in integrated into a separating plant which also comprises a treated liquid (gas) medium collector, pipe lines for initial non-treated and treated liquid (gas) media, pressure sensors connected to the pipe lines for non-treated and treated liquid (gas) media for switching the separating plant into a back-flushing mode, when an important amount of particles extracted from the initial liquid (gas) medium is collected on the membrane.

Abstract: Porous track membranes are produced by exposing a polymeric film to a bombardment of heavy ions to provide the film with a track density, and etching pores into the resulting tracked film with an etching solution to provide the film with a density of the pores corresponding to the track density under conditions to maintain turbulent flow. An alkaline etching solution is used that contains salts of alkali metals in sufficient concentration to increase the boiling point of the resulting alkali-metal-containing solution to temperatures in excess of about 100 up to about 150° C.
