Abstract:
A sensor (10) for attachment to an item of merchandise includes a housing (20) defining an interior cavity (22) and an electrical circuit (24) disposed within the interior cavity. A power adapter cord (50) having a length and containing one or more conductors is connected at one end to the electrical circuit and at the other end to the item of merchandise to supply electrical power to the item of merchandise. At least a portion of the length of the power adapter cord is retractable into the interior cavity of the housing by a wheel (54) disposed and rotatably mounted within the interior cavity. The wheel has a large diameter portion and a small diameter hub portion (56) that depends from the large diameter portion and on which the retractable portion of the length of the power adapter cord is wound when the wheel is rotated relative to the housing.
Abstract:
A security device includes a locking member, a ratchet mechanism, and a plurality of cables. The cables are wrapped around all six sides of a box-like article. An attachment clip is releasably snap-fitted into the body of the security device and locked therein by a magnetically attractable member. The ratchet mechanism includes a spool and a locking pawl or lever. A top wall of the housing or locking clip has a key receiving recess for positioning the key for unlocking the clip from the housing and releasing the spool from the ratchet mechanism. The spool is biased by an internal spring to take up cable slack or to automatically wind the cable onto the spool after the clip has been unlocked from the housing. The housing has a rotatable handle for manually rotating the internal spool to further tighten the cable about the article.
Abstract:
A security system and display module therefore protects an item of merchandise mounted on the display module in a retail environment. The item of merchandise is electrically and mechanically connected to a sensor which is removably mounted on the display module by a first power cord. A second power cord connects the display module to the sensor and a third power cord connects the display module to a source of electricity for supplying electric power to the sensor through the display module and then to the displayed item for maintaining the charge on a battery of the displayed item. The display module contains an alarm unit having an audible alarm which is actuated if the integrity of either of the first or second power cords is compromised. A plunger switch and LED may be contained in the sensor and in a base of the display module and connected to the internal alarm to provide additional security for the protected item of merchandise. The alarm is powered from the source of electricity but is automatically switched to the battery upon interruption of this power source.
Abstract:
A security system for protecting a plurality of items of merchandise on display in a retail environment. Each of the items is connected to a sensor which is removably mounted in a display module and connected thereto by a power cord. A single alarm module located in an inaccessible location is connected to each of the display modules by another power cord. A power cord connects each of the display modules to a source of electricity for supplying electric power to the sensor through the display module and then to the displayed item for maintaining the charge on a battery of the displayed item. The alarm unit contains an internal power source for controlling the alarm circuitry. A plunger switch and LED may be contained in the sensor.
Abstract:
A security collar (1) for placement around the base (2) of a display package to prevent removal of a cover (9) from the base to protect merchandise contained therein. An EAS security tag is (39) contained in the collar. A magnetically actuated lock mechanism is formed on the collar to lock the collar in a closed locked position on the display package. The collar (1) includes a pair of semi-circular housing members (15, 16) pivotally joined at one end and swingable between open and closed positions. The collar (1) is formed with spaced projections which trap the base (2) and portions of the cover (9) therebetween to secure the collar (1) about the base (2) and cover (9). Each of the housing members each locking teeth which mutually engage each other to secure the housing members in locked position.
Abstract:
A security device for attachment to an article to deter theft of the article has a housing containing an alarm system including an audible alarm and an LED. A cable has one end attached to the housing and a second end attached to a plug which is selectively inserted into and locked to the housing. The cable includes a conductor electrically connected to the alarm system when in the locked position. The audible alarm is activated if the integrity of the cable is compromised. An EAS tag located in the housing will actuate an alarm at a security gate and can actuate the audible alarm of the security device when the device is in proximity to a security gate. The LED is positioned in the housing to be visible from both sides of the housing. A magnetically attractable lock mechanism releasably secures the cable plug in the locked position.
Abstract:
A merchandise sensor (20) for protecting an item of merchandise (M) displayed on a merchandise display security device from theft includes sensor electronics (26) and a sensor element (28) operably coupled to the sensor electronics. The sensor element provides an output value in an initial stable state before an interaction state and in a subsequent stable state following the interaction state. The sensor electronics compares the output value of the sensor element in the subsequent stable state and the output value of the sensor element in the initial stable state to determine whether a change in the output value indicates an alarm condition. In the event that the output value of the sensor element in the subsequent stable state is not within a predetermined tolerance bandwidth (TB) of the output value of the sensor element in the initial stable state, the sensor electronics activates an alarm in response to the alarm condition.
Abstract:
A merchandise display security system (10, 10') for displaying and protecting a demonstration model (DM) of an item of merchandise having a movable or removable cover (C) includes a sensor (20) configured to be attached to the cover. The sensor may include a magnet assembly (30) that produces a magnetic field defining a predetermined minimum strength when the sensor is attached to the cover and the cover is closed on the demonstration model of the item of merchandise. A transducer (28) detects the presence of the magnetic field, or alternatively, changes in the strength of the magnetic field and generates an electrical signal corresponding to the strength of the magnetic field, for example an output voltage. The transducer communicates the electrical signal to electronics (26) that activate an alarm if the strength of the magnetic field is less than a predetermined minimum strength or greater than a predetermined maximum strength.
Abstract:
A programming apparatus for generating and retaining a security disarm code (SDC) for use in a security system for protecting items of merchandise has a housing and a logic control circuit located within the housing. The control circuit includes a controller for generating the SDC, a memory for storing the generated SDC and a wireless communication system for interfacing with a programmable key used for operating a security device attached to an item of merchandise. A visual display includes a plurality of LEDs which indicate the status of the logic control circuit. The SDC is generated initially as a random SDC by the programming apparatus, which SDC is retained in the controller of the apparatus for the life of the programming apparatus.
Abstract:
A lock mechanism is mounted on a pair of vertically spaced merchandise display rods to prevent removal of items of merchandise supported on the lower rod. The lock mechanism includes a housing having a internal lock chamber and a pair of upper and lower slots, each receiving one of the rods therethrough. The lower slot has a side opening enabling the lower rod to pass out of the housing when the housing is pivotally moved on the upper rod to an unlocked open position. A bayonet is slidably moveable in the chamber of the housing and has an elongated slot through which both of the rods extend. A locking device has a magnetically attractable locking tine which locks the housing and bayonet in a closed locked position on the pair of rods. A magnetic key moves the tine to an unlocked position enabling the housing and bayonet to move to an unlocked open position exposing the side opening of the housing lower slot for removing the housing out of engagement with the lower rod.
