Abstract: A magnetically actuated axial valve reduces emissions associated with valve stems while retaining a high flow efficiency. In one embodiment, a valve may have inner and outer magnet rings (22 & 23) which may be permanent magnets (12 & 13). Magnetic actuation utilizing N dFeB rare earth magnets (12 & 13) to maximize available torque in rotating an outer magnet ring 180°, thereby forcing synchronous rotation of an inner magnet ring connected to the valve rotor may be provided. A rotary position sensor may provide reliable indication of open and closed valve positions. A valve incorporating a conical sealing interface between rotating and stationary graphite halves to minimize internal leakage by providing a high degree of self-alignment and amplifying the contact force between the two halves is also provided. Methods corollary to the disclosed apparatus are also provided.
