Abstract: The multiple-spindle lathe described has at least two parallel-acting workpiece spindle units (18, 20) mounted to move in the x and z direction. The spindle units operate in conjunction with fixed workpiece carriers (22, 24) and themselves convey the workpieces to and from a workpiece-turning device (30) so that there is no need for an automatic conveyor to feed the workpieces between the two spindle units (18, 20).

Abstract: An automatic lathe with two parallel working spindles (12a, 12b), possessing on a common base (14) three cross-slides (20a, 20b, 20c) with different longitudinal slides (24a, 24b, 24c) the two outer slides operating with only one spindle. The central cross-slide (20c) with its longitudinal slide (24a) and the tools mounted thereon can be used with the two working spindles (12a, 12b). The central slide (20c) is driven by a separate shaft (34c) located in an additional groove-shaped channel in the slide, which is in the form of a guide beam. The arrangement of the third slide (20c) avoids dead time in either of the working spindles (12a or 12b) and reduces total machining time.

Abstract: A lathe has two workpiece spindles (28, 30) rotatively mounted each in a headstock (24, 26) and movable therewith in the direction of and transversely to the axis of the spindle. The workpiece clamping means of the spindles (28, 30) face each other. Tool holders (32, 34) are fixedly mounted at the front side of the lathe. In a front working area, the workpieces (46) are shaped exclusively by the displacement of the spindles (28, 30) in the X and Z directions, in cooperation with the tool holders (32, 34). In a transfer position located further back on the guides (12, 14), they are then directly transferred, i.e. without any reversing means, from a spindle (28) to the other (30). Still further back, they are taken up by a conveyor arrangement (44) or delivered to a conveyor arrangement (50).
