Abstract:
A medicament delivery device (1) comprises a metering member (25) mounted for rotation adjacent a reservoir (22) containing a bulk quantity of medicament. The metering member (25) is adapted when at a filling position to volumetrically meter a desired dose of medicament from the reservoir (22). By rotation of the metering member (25) in a first sense said dose is transferred to a dispensing position at which the dose can be dispensed from the device (1). The metering member (25) and/or a component (90) to which the metering member (25) is operably linked is provided with formations (95) effective to prevent reverse rotation of the metering member (25) from the filling position.
Abstract:
A medicament delivery device (1) comprises an actuation mechanism by successive operation of which a predetermined number of unit doses of medicament can be dispensed. The device includes a locking mechanism for preventing further operation of the actuation mechanism after dispensing of said predetermined number of unit doses. The locking mechanism comprises a resilient member (51), a formation (18) with which the resilient member (51) is engageable to disable operation of the actuation mechanism, and a barrier member (20) that prevents engagement of the resilient member (51) and the formation (18) until said predetermined number of unit doses has been dispensed. The device (1) may be a dry powder inhaler.
Abstract:
A dose counter mechanism is suitable for use with a medicament delivery device. The dose counter mechanism comprises a rollable tape (20) provided with indicia (22), a tape housing (10) and a tape collector spool (40). The tape housing comprises a tape dispenser housing (14) within which, in use, a roll (24) of the tape is inserted and a tape collector spool housing (16) within which, in use, the tape collector spool is mounted. The tape dispenser housing and the tape collector spool housing are connected by a tape display area (15).
Abstract:
Receptacle and delivery system for drugs delivered by powder inhalation and a method related thereto which provides improved entrainment, deagglomeration and/or aerosolisation of the powder. The receptacle (1) for holding a medicament comprises a cavity provided with a raised ridge (6, 22) which is adapted so that, in use, the airflow (in particular the inlet air or flushing air within the receptacle) is split into two substantially equal parts, e.g. providing first and second reservoirs.
Abstract:
A dry powder inhaler comprises at least one medicament reservoir containing a bulk quantity of a powdered medicament, and a metering mechanism by which unit doses of said medicament can be dispensed from the medicament reservoir for inhalation by a user of the inhaler. The at least one medicament reservoir is formed in polyester material. Penetration of moisture through the walls of the medicament reservoir is considerably reduced.
Abstract:
A dry powder inhaler comprises an airway (1) along which, in use, air is drawn from an upstream, inlet end (2) to a downstream, outlet end (3). The airway (1) includes a medicament presentation region (4) at which, in use, a dose of medicament is presented to the airway (1), a primary air inlet (10), and a barrel (5) extending from the medicament presentation region (4) to the outlet end (3) of the airway (1). The inlet end of the barrel (5) is of reduced internal dimension relative to the medicament presentation region (4) and relative to the outlet end of the barrel (5), such that the inlet end of the barrel (5) constitutes a constriction of the airway (1). At least one secondary air inlet (11) is disposed such that, in use, air enters the airway (1) from the secondary air inlet (11) in a direction that is substantially orthogonal to the direction of flow of air along said barrel (5).
Abstract:
A system for delivery of a medicament comprises a medicament container in the form of a reservoir (31) with a frangible closure (35), and a plurality of opening means (310). At least one of the opening means (310) is capable of displacing at least a portion of the frangible closure (35) outwardly. The system is particularly suited to incorporation into a dry powder inhaler.
Abstract:
There is described a medicament delivery assembly which comprises mouthpiece (8) provided with an air amplifier (12) and a primer source (1,4), wherein the mouthpiece (8) and the air amplifier (12) are each is connected to the primer source (1,4) via an actuatable valve (6); the air amplifier (6) is also provided with a medicament extraction tube such that when the actuatable valve (6) is opened then the primer source (4) is activated and causes air to flow to the air amplifier (4). There is also described a method of administering a medicament which comprises the use of such a medicament delivery assembly.
Abstract:
There is described a unit dosage powder receptacle which receptacle is provided with a frangible sealing member characterised in that the receptacle is provided with means to enable the frangible sealing member to be ruptured by inserting a powder flow channel through the sealing member such that the sealing member ruptures in a direction away from the powder. There is also described a rupturing member adapted for rupturing such a unit dosage powder receptacle and also a powder delivery device comparing a unit dosage powder receptacle and a method of treatment related thereto.
Abstract:
An inhaler comprising a first and second body member, the first body member and the second body member fitting closely together to form an inhaler body, and an outlet. The first body member includes a medicament chamber containing a unit dose of powdered medicament and a foil that closes the medicament chamber extending outwardly of the inhaler body to be grasped and withdrawn, thereby releasing the powdered medicament from the medicament chamber. The second body member includes a medicament collection well in which the released medicament is collected. The medicament collection well forms part of an airway communicating with the outlet, allowing inhalation air to entrain medicament in the medicament collection well. In another embodiment, the inhaler body includes a dispersion chamber. There is also disclosed a dry powder for inhalation comprising a desiccant and a bioactive agent, and a method of delivering a medicament to a patient.
