Abstract: A coin testing device comprising two parts (2, 4) carrying coin sensor elements (14, 16), the two parts being capable of relative movement apart from each other for access to the space between them. When the parts are closed, their relative positioning is defined by features at four positions. At three of those positions (100, 102, 104) the features are such as to determine the spacing between the two parts and at two of those positions (100, 106) the features are such as to prevent relative translational and rotational movement of the two parts in their own plane. A loose hinging arrangement is provided so that only the features of those four positions, and not features of the lid, determine the relative position of the two closed parts.

Abstract: A coin guiding device (10) comprises a surface (16) disposed normally in use in the path of a coin, and inclined downwardly toward one side of the path to cause coins which have engaged the surface to tend to move toward that side. The surface is moveable under the weight of the coin in a direction out of the plane of the coin to permit the coin to pass, and is so arranged that the effective leverage caused by the coin increases as the coin moves toward the side of the path.

Abstract: Coins are stored edge-to-edge in two-dimensional arrays within respective panel structures assembled together face-to-face. Each panel has a dispensing arm which operates first to allow a coin to enter an exit region, and then to allow the coin to leave the exit region while preventing further coins from entering. A single motor drives all the dispenser arms, each of which can be selectively inhibited from operating. Thus, a plurality of coins can be dispensed simultaneously, each from a respective one of the stores. Each store is also provided with an agitator, the agitators also being driven by the motor. Each layer of coins is disposed between a pair of conductive layers, and an indication of the number of coins within the store is provided by measuring the capacitance between the conductive layers. The storage assembly, a separator and a validator are all mounted on the face of a flat spine member.

Abstract: A coin testing device comprising two parts (2, 4) which in an operating, closed, condition of the device define between them a narrow space (6) in which coins travel edgewise, and one or more coin sensor elements (12, 12', 14, 14', 16, 16') mounted on at least one of the parts, the two parts being capable of relative movement apart from each other for access to the space between them, characterised in that the two parts are provided with location-defining features (20, 20', 22, 22', 24, 24') at three positions which are spaced apart to form a triangle, that when the two parts are being brought together from their apart position they are sufficiently displaceable relative to each other to be able to adopt final closed positions determined only by contact between the location-defining features, and that means (28, 56) is provided for urging the parts towards each other at a position within said triangle. Accurate location of the two parts relative to each other is achieved despite manufacturing tolerances.
