The invention relates to a method in a multiroll calender comprising two sets of rolls and a multiroll calender comprising two sets of rolls. In the multiroll calender the lowest or second lowest intermediate roll of both sets of rolls is locked to a lower position, whereby, by loading the rolls above or below the locked roll, a required number of calendering nips can be provided for use. The invention also relates to a method for loading a calender roll of a multiroll calender and a multi- roll calender for carrying out the method.

A soft calender contains two roll groups (A, B) of three rolls, each forming two successive soft calendering nips (N) while the rolls are located on top of each other in the groups. The roll groups (A, B) are positioned in separate vertical frames (R1, R2). In both roll groups (A, B) the bearing housing (2) of the roll (1) in the middle is fastened to the vertical frame (R1, R2) and the upper and lower roll (1) on both sides of the same are fastened by their bearing housings (2) to the bearing housing (2) of the middle roll.

The invention concerns a calender, especially a soft calender, including a body structure (10) and at least two roller sets (11; 12), wherein there is at least one calendering nip (N1, N2, N3, N4) formed in between two rollers (13, 14; 14, 15; 16, 17; 17, 18).Of the rollers forming the nip at least one is a roller with a soft surface (13, 15; 16, 18) and the other roller is a heating roller (14, 17). The calender body structure (10) is formed with a stepped shape in such a way that the rollers sets (11, 12) can belocated in an upper and a lower place of location (21) on the sameside of the body.

A method and a system for controlling the moisture profile and/or moisture gradient of a paper web for production of at least SC quality paper in a paper machine comprising a calender (1) which has at least two roll stacks (21, 22; 31, 32), of which at least one has at least three rolls and of which at least another one has at least five rolls, and which calender is provided with a pre-moisturizer (7) placed before the calender, in which pre-moisturizer the web is moisturized to a desired pre-moisture content M1, and with at least one intermediate moisturizer (3) arranged between two roll stacks to a desired intermediate moisture content M2 before the last roll stack (31, 32), in which the web is dried to a desired final moisture value M3. In accordance with the invention, for continuously controlling and optimizing the moisture profile and/or moisture gradient of the web, the premoisturizing W1 of the web is controlled by a control parameter of the premoisturizer (7) situated before the calender (1), which control parameter corresponds to the final moisture value M3 of the web.
