Abstract: Disclosed herein is a novel purified toxin isolated from Euglena sanguinea. More specifically the toxin, termed euglenophycin, is an alkaloid having herbicidal and cytotoxicity against plant and mammalian cells.

Abstract: The present invention includes an irrigation controller utilizing a "virtual" dial. In particular, the present invention contemplates an electronic programming and controlling interface that is controlled according to actuation of a simple on/off switch (i.e., a binary switch), preferably a push button. For example, in one embodiment, an irrigation controller is provided wherein a rotary dial is replaced with a circular liquid crystal display. The LCD contains segments peripherally on its screen that are energized according to the desired function selected by the user. The segment that is "on" at a particular time will correspond to visual indicia on the panel of the controller to inform the user which function is operable at that particular time. The user can then advance to the next segment on the LCD screen by pressing a button located elsewhere on the controller panel.

Abstract: An irrigation controller (108) that has a virtual rotary dial (100) having the shape of a nine pointed star. Each arm (104) of the star is comprised of or part of a liquid crystal display, which, when energized, takes on an opaque color. When an arm (104) is opaque, this indicates that the controller (108) is in the mode that is identified on the controller face that corresponds to the opaque arm of the star. For example, when the arm (104) of the star near the words “Manual” is opaque, this means that the irrigation controller (108) is in the “manual” mode.

Abstract: An isolated and purified Pfiesteria toxin having the NMR spectra given in Figure 1 herein is described. The toxin may be produced by (a) culturing a Pfiesteria species in a growth media to produce Pfiesteria toxin therein; (b) separating a first fraction of organic compounds including said Pfiesteria toxin from said growth media; and then (c) separating a second fraction consisting essentially of said Pfiesteria toxin from said first fraction by chromatography with porous silica beads.
