A layered product comprising a multilayer structure comprising an optical base and a cured polyurethane resin layer formed thereon from a moisture-curable polyurethane resin and/or a precursor therefor. The polyurethane resin layer is formed by applying a coating fluid comprising a moisture-curable polyurethane resin and/or precursor therefor and a solvent having a boiling point of 70°C or higher and a solubility parameter of 8 or larger. Also provided is a coating material comprising a radical-polymerizable monomer ingredient, a silicone or fluorochemical surfactant, and a photochromic compound. In producing a photochromic optical article, excellent adhesion between a base and a photochromic layer is attained.

Novel fulgimide compounds substituted on the nitrogen atom constituting the imide ring with a phenyl group having an electron attractive group at least at one of the m-positions, which are represented by general formula (I), wherein the group of general formula (a) is an optionally substituted divalent aromatic hydrocarbon or unsaturated heterocyclic group; the group of general formula (b) is an optionally substituted norbornylidene, bicyclo[3.3.1]nonylidene or adamantylidene group; and R is an electron attractive group; and the use of them as photochromic material. The fulgimide compounds develop colors in higher densities than those of the photochromic compounds of the prior art.

An ultraviolet absorber, e.g., 2,2'-dihydroxy-4,4'-dimethoxybenzophenone, is added to and mixed with an allyl monomer and the monomer is then polymerized using a peroxyester polymerization initiator. Alternatively, the acid value of an allyl monomer is reduced and this monomer is then polymerized using an ultraviolet absorber and a peroxydicarbonate polymerization initiator. Thus, a plastic lens is obtained. The plastic lens obtained has a low transmittance of ultraviolet rays, which exert various adverse influences on the human body, and has a low yellowness.
