Abstract: There is disclosed heat treatment apparatus (100) for treating air, comprising in flow order: a pre-heating portion (130), a heating portion (150) and a cooling portion (170) for conveying an air flow therethrough; and a heater (654) configured to heat air received in the heating portion; wherein the pre-heating portion (130) is configured for heat exchange with the cooling portion (170) in a heat exchanger stage (120) of the apparatus, such that upon discharge from the heating portion (150) into the cooling portion (170) the air flow is cooled by transferring heat to upstream air in the pre-heating portion.
