Abstract:
Disclosed is an optical fiber cooling apparatus and method used in an optical fiber drawing process, which measures an outer diameter of a coated optical fiber indicating its coating condition and controls a feeding amount and a recovery amount of a coolant depending on the outer diameter, thereby ensuring uniform coating of the optical fiber, and which can reduce a usage amount of the coolant used to cool an optical fiber by increasing a recovery amount of the coolant even though the coolant was fed in small quantities, and of which configuration is simple, resulting in reduced facility cost.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a trench-type optical fiber with excellent bending loss characteristics includes: (a) forming a core and a first clad layer by means of deposition; (b) preparing a tube containing hydroxyl (OH ) impurities not exceeding a predetermined level, and joining the tube around the first clad layer by means of over-cladding to form a second clad layer; and (c) forming a third clad layer around the second clad layer.
