A process for the preparation of a coated detergent particle having perpendicular dimensions x, y and z, wherein x is from 1 to 2 mm, y is from 2 to 8mm, and z is from 2 to 8 mm, wherein the process comprises the following steps: (i) forming a detersive mixture comprising from 40wt% to 90wt% detersive surfactant; (ii) extruding the detersive mixture of step (i) to form an extruded material; (iii) coating the extruded material with a coating material to form a wet coated extruded material comprising from 1wt% to 40wt% water soluble inorganic salt and from 0.01wt% to 10wt% perfume, wherein the coating material is in the form of an aqueous slurry and comprises from 20wt% to 90wt% water-soluble inorganic, and from 0.1wt% to 40wt% encapsulated perfume; and (iv) removing water from the wet coated extruded material to form the coated detergent particle.

The present invention relates to a process for preparing a spray-dried detergent powder comprising: (i) detersive surfactant; and (ii) other detergent ingredients; wherein the process comprises the steps of: (a) forming an aqueous detergent slurry in a mixer; (b) transferring the aqueous detergent slurry from the mixer to a pipe leading through a first pump and then through a second pump to a spray nozzle; (c) contacting a detergent ingredient to the aqueous detergent slurry in the pipe after the first pump and before the second pump to form a mixture; (d) spraying the mixture through the spray nozzle into a spray-drying tower; and (e) spray-drying the mixture to form a spray-dried powder, wherein the pressure drop between (i) the pressure in the pipe at the outlet of the first pump to (ii) the pressure in the pipe at the inlet to the second pump is less than 8x10 5 Pa.
