Abstract:
A vehicle seat has a back-rest (1) carrying a head-rest (2). A mechanism is provided to move the head-rest (2) forwardly relative to the back-rest (1) in response to a rear impact situation. An element (9) is operatively located between the head-rest (2) and the mechanism (6) which is adapted to yield when exposed to a force in excess of a predetermined force. Thus the force that can be applied by the head-rest (2) to a head (8) of an occupant of the seat, is limited to be a maximum of 200 Newtons, with the preferred value being 100 Newtons.
Abstract:
A safety arrangement for a vehicle, comprising: an air-bag module having an inflatable air-bag, the air-bag being configured to occupy an initial position following inflation thereof; an inflator adapted to deliver gas into the interior of the air-bag to inflate the air-bag; an active venting arrangement movable between a closed configuration and an open configuration, and which, in the open configuration, opens a gas flow passage between the interior of the air- bag and the exterior of the air-bag, thus allowing gas to escape from the air- bag; a moving arrangement adapted to move the air-bag from its initial position following inflation of the air-bag; and a driving arrangement which, when triggered, moves the active venting arrangement from the closed position to the open position and also triggers the moving arrangement to remove the air- bag from its initial position.
Abstract:
A head-rest arrangement for a vehicle seat includes a head-rest (2) mounted in position on a vehicle seat (1) so that it can move forwardly form an initial position to a final position. A spring mechanism (12, 13) is provided to move the head-rest. A release mechanism (10) is actuated by movement of a pressure responsive element (6) within the back of the seat to initially prevent operation of the spring mechanism, and to release the spring mechanism when pressure is applied during a rear impact.
Abstract:
A safety device is provided to lift the rear part of the hood or bonnet of a motor vehicle in the event that the vehicle should collide with a pedestrian. The rear part of the hood or bonnet is connected to the main part of the vehicle by means of a hinge (20) which connect to permit the front part of the hood or bonnet to be opened, and which enables the rear part of the hood or bonnet to be lifted. A lifting element (1) is located beneath the rear part of the hood or bonnet (42) and is actuable to lift the rear part of the hood or bonnet. The hinge comprises a hinge arm (40) having one end (41) thereof pivotally connected (45) to the main part (43) of the vehicle, and having part (35) pivotally connected (27) to the hood or bonnet (42). There is a release mechanism (26) to release the connection in response to actuation of the lifting element (1).
Abstract:
A vehicle seat (1) as a head-rest (5) which is mounted for movement about a horizontal axis defined by a bar (7) depending arms (12) extend downwardly into the back of the seat and carry a pressure plate (13) at a position behind the torso of the occupant of the seat so that pressure applied to the pressure plate (13) will cause the head-rest (5) to move forwardly. The pressure plate (13) is pivotally connected (14, 15, 16, 17) to the arms (12) to enable the arrangement to pivot to the maximum extent in a situation where the rear part of the seat is rigid, for example if the seat is a rear seat in a motor vehicle.
