Abstract: A fastener (11) for attaching a button (B) or the like to a garment (G) or piece of fabric is provided, the button (B) having an outer surface (B0) and two or more holes (B1, B2). The fastener (11) comprises a U-shaped filament (13), a first foot (21) at one end of the filament (13), and a second foot (23) at the opposite end of the filament (13). The fastener (11) is constructed of plastic except for the filament (13) or at least a portion thereof which is made of thread. The first foot (21) and the second foot (23) are appropriately dimensioned so as to be insertable through two holes (B1, B2) in the button (B) as well as through the garment (G) in such a way as to be retained by the underside of the garment (G). The length of the portion of the filament (13) made of thread is sized so that when the first (21) and second (23) feet of the fastener (11) are inserted through the buttom holes (B1, B2) and the garment (G), only thread is visible over the outer surface (B0) of the button (B) so as to give the illusion that the button (B) has been attached to the garment (G) or piece of material using only thread. In one embodiment of the present invention, the first (21) and second (23) feet are in the shape of elongated bars perpendicular to the filament (13).
