Abstract: A method and apparatus selectively resetting a control plane (1 10) in a network element (100) is described. One embodiment of the invention is a network element ( 100) with a selective reset controller (202) that can reset the control plane ( 110) of the network element (100) without interrupting the data traffic processing of the data plane (112) of the network element (100).
