Abstract: Pressure relief valve for a flexible hollow body such as a bag, packing envelope, balloon or the like. The valve comprises an upper gas-tight elastic sheet having at least one outlet opening for the gas exhaust. Said sheet is connected to a sheet-like wall of the hollow body and to a truncated valve body. The valve is provided with a lower gas-tight and vapour-tight elastic sheet (5), of which the edges (6) are secured to the upper sheet (4). Optionally, the lower sheet (5) forms a portion of the wall of the hollow body. An elastic foam layer is arranged between the upper sheet and the lower sheet. It is provided with a central recess adapted to the valve body to form an obturating device (8). This obturating device is movable so that the large end (14) of the cone of the obturating device (8) extends beyond on the outer face of an opening (9) provided in the lower layer (5) arranged in the hollow body wall. The diameter of the opening (9) arranged in the lower layer is slightly smaller than the diameter of the large end (14) of the truncated cone of the obturating device. Openings (11) for the gas discharge are formed in the upper sheet (4), at a distance from the surface of the upper sheet (4) which is in contact with the reduced portion (10) of the truncated cone. The pressure relief valve is appropriate to be adapted to a flexible hollow body such as pneumatic mattresses, inflatable cushions, meteorological balloons, etc., as well as for medical applications, for example for colostomy bags.
