Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems that relate to forming a metal hydroxy salt from a metal salt at an anode and generating hydrogen gas at a cathode of an electrochemical cell. The metal hydroxy salt is then subjected to a thermal reaction or another electrochemical reaction to form oxygen gas as well as to regenerate the metal salt.

Abstract: Provided herein are anode and/or cathode pan assemblies comprising unique manifold, outlet tube, and/or baffle plate configurations; electrochemical cell and/or electrolyzer containing the anode and/or the cathode pan assemblies; and methods to use and manufacture the same. The anode and/or a cathode pan assembly may comprise: an anode and/or a cathode pan, and a manifold positioned inside the anode and/or the cathode pan, wherein cross sectional area of the manifold comprises depth of the manifold to be between about 0.25-0.75 of depth of the pan. The pan may comprise one or more ribs inside the pan comprising one or more notches, and a baffle plate comprising two or more slots configured to fit over the one or more notches of the one or more ribs.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems that relate to oxidizing a metal ion of a metal oxyanion or a non-metal ion of a non-metal oxyanion from a lower oxidation state to a higher oxidation state at an anode and generating hydrogen gas at a cathode. The metal oxyanion with the metal ion in the higher oxidation state or the non-metal oxyanion with the non-metal ion in the higher oxidation state may then be subjected to a thermal reaction or a second electrochemical reaction to form oxygen gas as well as to regenerate the metal oxyanion with the metal ion in the lower oxidation state or the non-metal oxyanion with the non-metal ion in the lower oxidation state, respectively.
